Diego's offers a vibrant dining experience with delicious West Coast-style Mexican food and a wide array of drinks, particularly praised for its creative tacos and flavorful margaritas. While the lively atmosphere and diverse menu, including vegan and gluten-free options, are highly appreciated, some diners have noted occasional noise levels and minor issues with billing accuracy.
"Food was glorious! We had burritos, nachos with guacamole and the fish tacos! All were super good. The filling in the burrito was generous and cleanly wrapped. Quite noisy though inside. Servers were very helpful and attentive."

"Great local restaurant. Me and my friends go so often our waitress, Sadie, knows us. Sadie is great! She is very attentive and always friendly. They have a great taco Tuesday. I want to go and try their nacho Thursday. Think Mexican food with a twist. Definitely recommend checking it out if you’re in the area."

Restaurants in Newport County and East Bay
Tacos, sharable Mexican snacks, and spicy margaritas are among the go-tos at this casual and—by local standards—affordable restaurant right in the corazon of Newport's lively Bowen's Wharf. Indoor and outdoor dining, including on a roof deck, make Diego's a magnet for visitors on a summer afternoon or evening, and it's worth getting up early on the weekend for a brunch spread that includes a menu of $8 specials like tortas, huevos rancheros, and hash when you buy a tequila-twisted Bloody Mary or other breakfast eye-opening cocktail.
What to do and where to stay with your dog in Newport
There are also lots of restaurants in town where you can sit outside with your dog including Diego’s, Perro Salado, The Pearl outside, Malt, Fifth Element, and Corner Cafe. There are leash laws on the island and the beaches are very strict about dogs in the summer so it’s almost not worth it to go there from Memorial Day to Labor Day because they do issue tickets and they’re $100. But there’s no shortage of gorgeous and fun places to go with your furry friend, and they’ll be so tired after a day of exploring you can leave them in a cozy bed of their own at the Vanderbilt Grace!
Waterfront Restaurants
Welcome to the place where the food has just as much character as the atmosphere, laden with string lights, Day of the Dead skulls, and a Buddha or two strewn about. The menu here boasts California-style Mexican dishes contrived with fresh ingredients and homemade, to-die-for sauces with bold flavor. Grab a seat on the outdoor patio for a lively experience in the heart of downtown Newport, or by the window in their new upstairs dining room with front row views of the boats leaving harbor.

7 Must-Try Newport Restaurants That Make Dining With Kids Easy
Diego’s occupies a perfect location in the middle of the action on Bowen’s Wharf. The vibe is punk-rock meets Baja cantina, but the kids’ list keeps things mild with burritos, quesadillas, and nachos built around rice, beans, and grilled chicken. Parents dig into shrimp tacos or mezcal cocktails, and when attention spans fade, the wharf’s souvenir kiosks and boat docks sit just outside the door.
