What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Burma Superstar is consistently praised for its unique and flavorful Burmese cuisine, with the tea leaf salad being a standout favorite. Diners appreciate the friendly service and cozy atmosphere. However, be prepared for potentially long wait times, especially during peak hours, and parking can sometimes be a challenge.
"We went there for sunday lunch and it was excellent experience. We got the Burmese python, which is a great cocktail and paired well with salt and pepper calamari. For main course we ordered garlic noodle with chicken and chicken kebat. Both of them were moderately spiced and go well together. Altogether very fresh food with fresh incidents. Highly recommend, if you looking for Asian food and in the area"

"Our server Timothy was the best and we thought the food was good. Timothy explained the history of the restaurant and providing helpful tips for us . When they brought out the famous tea leaf salad the server explained the process of folding the salad ( please see video) . The restaurant is small and comfy so if you do not want to eat outside in the cold (heater lamps are provided) then I would suggest you try not to go during peak hours. You must try the jasmine ginger honey tea…the best tea ever!!!"

"The tea leaf salad was a flavor explosion—earthy, crunchy, and totally unique. The platha was perfectly flaky, and the coconut rice complemented everything beautifully. The cozy atmosphere added to the experience. However, the wait time was longer than expected, and parking was a bit of a hassle. Still, the food made it all worthwhile"

The Best Things to Do in Oakland: Gen Z Edition
Walk your way toward one of several amazing restaurants: Cholita Linda, which sells Latin American street food in a space decorated to make you feel like you’re on a colorful street in Peru (the asado sandwich and salad, with fried fish, are highlights); ever-popular Burma Superstar, which has a long wait and higher prices (but specialty dishes like tea leaf salad and nan gyi dok, a coconut rice noodle curry, make it worth it for special occasions); and Homeroom, a comfort-food favorite that does one thing really, really well: macaroni and cheese (and yes, you can order a side of milk with that).

Burmese cuisine is influenced by the spices, seasonings, ingredients, and cooking styles of India, China, Laos, and Thailand. It’s the most intimate of the mini-empire’s many locations across the Bay, with lights that seemingly can’t turn up past 20% and just a few tables and a long bar. The food is also at its most consistent here—that tea leaf salad packs a funky punch, the platha has crisped-up edges, and the coconut rice is sweet and fluffy every time. There’s usually always a line, so prepare to wait your turn.

Adults and parents will love the menu options just as much, including their famous tea leaf salad.
