Reviews Summary

Salween Thai is a popular spot for traditional Thai cuisine, frequently praised for its flavorful Pad Thai and curries, along with customizable spice levels. However, some reviews mention inconsistencies in quality and portion sizes, with occasional complaints about blandness or excessive salt and sugar. Despite mixed feedback, many consider it a solid choice for Thai food in Omaha.

"If you ask my wife, this Thai restaurant is the stuff of legend; the best Thai restaurant in America. When we visited Omaha recently, I knew we would end up here eventually. The environment is pleasant. The service was par for the course. The food was something special. The amount of flavor that the pad Thai and pad see ew we had punched was without a doubt incomparable with any other Thai restaurant I have been to. This place just has a back home in Thailand type energy. You can almost imagine the Thai grandma back in the kitchen preparing your meal with love."

"The food is very good. The server was great, everything was good. I like a little bit thicker broth, especially with coconut milk, but the flavor was outstanding, and they bring the perfect amount of heat. The rice was cooked perfectly, and the plate presentation is very good"

"Got the "Sizzling chicken pad Thai". Was interested because it seemed like a spicy twist or maybe they did something special the chicken. That was the chef's special of the day. Well, first of all I'm not a Thai food connoisseur, but I know Pad Thai should be spicy sweet and sour. I got a 7 star out of 10, and it was probably a 0-1 level of spice - there was no spice at all but thanks. No peanuts, and no tamarind paste in the "Pad Thai". It tasted like there was only say sauce, and mayyyybeee some oyster sauce and maybe garlic. Tasted like a stir-fried noodle, basic and bland. Nothing special about the chicken. What made this dish special though was how much oil was used to stir fry it. Just slop. The only vegetables in the dish were a few pieces of green onion and some bean sprouts. No flavor, no spice, no ingredients, NOT pad Thai. You've done this the last couple of times I have paid you for some Thai food, but they think shortcuts and care free attitudes create lasting impressions with food. Well, you thought wrong. Do better, because your food officially sucks. Never any Salween again. What makes your restaurant special???"

Pad Thai was delicious and I called to ask for extra peanuts and Ext Side Of Rice they did it at no extra cost. Very yummy. Also the Fried Drunken Noodle was just perfectly spicy and the beef was tender and delicious. Definitely worth the price huge portions. Love this place ". "The combination Fried Dunken Noodle dish is one of the best meals that I've tasted in a long time. The veggies were plentiful/fresh and the amount given was definitely worth the price. I've been going through a dumpling phase and these didn't disappoint at all! The fried egg rolls were delicious too! You've just gotten a loyal customer! I'll be back tomorrow to try something else LBVVS!

The 38 Essential Omaha Restaurants

Salween began as a standalone Midtown restaurant and now boasts four locations all over the city. Already established as one of the most popular takeout and delivery spots in Omaha, its popularity (and sometimes the wait) surged during the pandemic. Among the most popular dishes are pad thai and Panang curry, though there are some hidden gems on the menu, including coconut chicken noodle soup and larb.

Restaurants: Hidden gems in Omaha

So popular that it’s added a second location, Salween Thai isn’t a hidden gem among many Omahans, but if you’re new to the genre, start here. A word of caution: The restaurant’s spice scale runs hot, so choosing a lower number is good for anyone who isn’t a true spice lover. Among my favorites: Panang curry, drunken noodles, pad Thai, spicy beef salad and rice ball meatballs.
