Reviews Summary

De Afghanan Cuisine is praised for its delicious and authentic Afghan food, particularly its tender kabobs and flavorful rice dishes, making it a favorite for many. However, some diners have experienced issues with inconsistent service, particularly regarding wait times and perceived preferential treatment for certain customers, and a stingy approach to takeout sauces has been noted.

"The mantu (dumplings) is delicious! Their chicken kabob is really tender and seasoned well. I forgot to take a picture of my combination plate. The Chaplee kabob is very interesting with a mild-medium spice. We loved everything we ordered and can't wait to return!"

"Hands down, our favorite top 3 restaurants. It's expensive but man it's so good. I have been here 10+ times over the year and the food taste is consistently great!

We only come here for special occasion since it's expensive. You will want to try verity and take the left over home. Yummy.

I highly recommend this if you like Afghan food. If you have not try, you should. Order what I ordered for 4.

May be I should go to dinner there tonight. :-)"

"Disappointed with the takeout experience.
I had previously dined at this restaurant and had a great experience—delicious food and generous, unlimited sauces, which really elevated the meal. That made me excited to order takeout this time. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t match up.

Each dish cost around $22, but they only included one small sauce per container. When I asked for more, I was charged an additional ~$3 for extra sauces, most of which I didn’t end up liking. It felt stingy compared to the in-restaurant experience, and it definitely took away from the overall enjoyment.

Sad to say, I was really disappointed this time. I hope they consider treating takeout customers with the same quality and generosity as dine-in."

Food Forays in Fremont

For a meal in Little Kabul we tried De Afghanan Cuisine (37395 Fremont Boulevard), which was filled on a weekday with multi-generational Afghan families, who were no doubt enjoying the deliciously spiced beef chapli kababs with the ubiquitous naan as much as we did. On a later visit to Salang Pass Restaurant at 37462 Fremont Boulevard down the block, we lounged cross-legged on pillows at one of the traditional low tables and guzzled pitchers of the cucumber- and mint-laced yogurt drink, called dogh, noticing that other patrons had brought their own wine and beer to this halal restaurant.

Eating Fremont: A dining scene as diverse as the city

One of Fremont’s oldest, most established restaurants is De Afghanan Cuisine in Centerville. Its side-by-side eateries (a restaurant and takeout spot) are on Fremont Boulevard in “Little Kabul,” considered home to the largest Afghan-American population in the United States. The meat kebabs and bolani bread are De Afghanan’s most popular items, with a standout in the chaplee kebab, made from ground beef, scallions, red pepper, cilantro, cumin, coriander and a variety of spices.
