What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Angelo's Pizzeria is celebrated for its outstanding cheesesteaks and pizzas, with many calling them the best in the city. Diners appreciate the quality ingredients and the unique, albeit time-consuming, ordering process. However, some reviews mention inconsistency in pizza quality and a lack of seating, which can detract from the overall experience.
"We went around 5 PM on a Friday and they were already out of bread for cheesesteaks, so we settled for the pepperoni pie (no slices, pie only). There was a small line, and it took about 15 minutes to get our pizza. The pepperoni came with a good amount of basil, which was a nice touch. It was a solid pizza with a thick crust, worth it.
Update: We went back Saturday around 12 PM for cheesesteaks. The line to order moves pretty fast, and the staff was super nice (in a Philly way), explaining all the cheesesteak options and what to order (so helpful!). It took about an hour and a quarter to get our text for the cheesesteak, so we walked down to Pops Buns Shop for some delicious kolaches, then headed to Function Coffee Labs in the Italian Market for a great cup of coffee. By the time we got back, we waited about 20 more minutes and finally got our steaks. They were very delicious and very messy. We got the Cooper Sharp with roasted reds, mushrooms, and onions. Definitely a must-try!"

"Don’t just get the cheesesteaks, the pizza is well worth it. It’s clear these guys know how to make dough. The crust was crispy, nice crumb, no flop, very good chew from the rise, and good flavor from the ferment. Sauce was solid, good quality cheese. Reminded me of a solid New Haven style crust. Slightly dry, but still good. The only major downside was the undercarriage - way too much flour going in the oven, burned and left a slightly bitter flavor. Definitely worth a visit."

"This is by far one of the best Philly cheesesteaks I've ever had. I've been to Geno's and Pat's, and I love them both, but this cheese steak blew me away.
The combination of a sturdy sesame seed hoagie roll with authentic steak, onions, and cheese. It was incredible. I actually had to walk a few miles out of the way in the rain, and the paper bag I was holding the steak in remained dry, hot, and delicious.
Tucked away in a quaint stretch of storefronts within Little Italy, you get a feel for the authenticity of this arguably hole in the wall restaurant.
The servers were pleasant, but it also is incredibly fast paced, busy, and they are operating like a well oiled machine. Look at the menu beforehand because you will want to get in and out as it's slightly cramped in the restaurant itself, and all seating would be outside along the street.
Some tips:
Make sure you have cash. Again, this gives a feel of authenticity, but this little establishment does not accept card. Be prepared to wait 30+ min for even one steak. Again, it is worth the wait. You can take in the other shops and ambiance of Little Italy. Some cheese steak lovers like to pair their steak with fries, but Angelo does not have fries on the menu. There are loads of other delicious items available, and if you want fries you can just walk a block or two to one of the other storefronts that offers fries. Again, you might have a bit of a wait anyway.
Cheers!!"
