Reviews Summary

Barbuzzo is a highly acclaimed Mediterranean restaurant known for its delicious food, particularly its pizzas and the legendary salted caramel budino. Reviewers praise the friendly service and cozy atmosphere, though some mention the small space and occasional sweetness on pizzas. Overall, it's a must-visit spot in Philadelphia for a memorable dining experience.

"The food was delicious. I got the whipped ricotta for the appetizer and it was so good. The cheese was nice and creamy and the bread was toasted just right. I also got the arancini and it was pretty good. I got the funghi pizza for my entree and it was pretty good. Our server was very enthusiastic and just overall very pleasant to be around. I highly recommend this place. 10/10"

Jacob Yee

"I have walked past this establishment many times, tempted by the delicious scents wafting from the tables that adorn the sidewalk in the heart of Philadelphia.

A friend was in town for a visit and thought it was the perfect moment to give Barbuzzo a go.

The atmosphere was enchanting, nibbling on olives and gossiping with a friend as street goers rushed by.

I only rated it a 4star because the specialty cocktail was a flop. At 15.00 (as much as a pizza) it was described as a spicy margarita and it fell short on all accounts. It felt watered down with a flavor profile that was confusing to say the least.

The food however was scrumptious. The pizza crust included just the right amount of char to feel like it came from your Nonna’s kitchen.

Although many would say they were just olives, there was something delicious about the ones from Barbuzzo. Firm, sweet, and meaty.

Although the drink was a flop I would definitely go back for another meal."

Nico Dee

"Restaurant near Broad Street, very central location. As an Italian, I have to say it was very good, from the meat/fish to the pizza, with its soft and fluffy dough. The mozzarella wasn’t the best, but still a good pizza for the States.

The place isn’t very big inside, but it’s beautifully decorated with very modern finishes. In the evening, the dim lighting creates a very warm and friendly atmosphere. Service was super fast and the staff very friendly. Good mocktails. The dessert selection is quite limited, but the chocolate tiramisù was actually very good and worth trying!

Other than that, highly recommended!"

Restaurants in Philadelphia

This buzzing Mediterranean tapas joint has inspired an almost religious devotion among nearly every demographic of Philadelphian. Diners happily stuff themselves into the cramped tables at this long, narrow eatery for a fix of the cheese boards, the egg-and-truffle pizza, and the house-made charcuterie. But above all, the salted caramel budino (a classic Italian pudding)—with so much demand, chef Marcie Turney figured out how to sell it online in a six-pack and turn it into ice-cream pops in the summer—is heavenly.

The 20 Best Restaurants In Center City - Philadelphia

Barbuzzo makes some of our favorite pasta, pizza and Mediterranean small plates in Center City. Yes, it’s good for a date night or dinner with friends, but the narrow 13th Street space is comfortable (and easier to get into) when dining alone at the first-come, first-serve chef’s counter. There’s not a bad dish to be had here–we like the asparago pizza, grilled octopus, or pan seared gnocchi.

Best Philadelphia Lunch Restaurants: Top 10Best Restaurant Reviews

The decor here at Barbuzzo may be refreshingly spare at this modern Mediterranean restaurant but the menu is anything but. Pastas, pizzas, charcuterie boards, small plates, big plates all compete for attention alongside an equally long list of updated classic cocktails, craft beers and wines by the bottle and glass. Dishes like grilled branzino and noodle paella crafted by the expert hands of Chef Marcie Turney (who, with her partner, owns a large handful of other restaurants and shops on the block) make this both a neighborhood cafe for regulars and a special occasion spot for foodies from the burbs.

Where to Eat in Philadelphia

A seriously addictive menu of locally-sourced ingredients and a slew of housemade accoutrements woos diners like a persistent suitor. A roster of rustic Italian classics, hearty salads, and fresh seafood remain perennial favourites, while imaginative pizzas like the Coniglio — a delightful cacophony of rabbit-hazelnut sausage, San Marzano tomatoes, stinging nettles, and olives — serve as a reminder as to why a seat in this diminutive restaurant is coveted real estate. Bookend your meal with a starter of caciocavallo-stuffed meatballs and the lauded budino, an Italian egg pudding.

No one would blame you if you skipped straight to dessert at Marcy Turney and Valerie Safran’s Barbuzzo (though we wouldn’t recommend it: their caciocavallo-stuffed meatballs are pretty awesome). The salted caramel budino has taken on a life of its own with its creamy, caramel-y pudding, dark chocolate crust and sea salt. Order one as the finale of your Barbuzzo meal, or pick up a mason jar … or two … or three at Turney’s and Safran’s neighboring gift shop Verde during select times of the year.

For a dessert of few elements, Barbuzzo’s Salted Caramel Budino has created quite a frenzy from South 13th Street in Philadelphia. Barbuzzo chef and Salted Caramel Budino creator, Marcie Turney, simply layers dark chocolate crust, vanilla bean caramel pudding, and serves it with crème fraîche and sea salt in a mason jar. The budino has gained so much favorable attention that Turney created a salted caramel budino donut that was available for a limited time.
