Reviews Summary

Pizzeria Beddia consistently garners high praise for its exceptional pizzas, with many calling it the best in the country. Diners also rave about the unique tasting menus and creative non-pizza dishes, complemented by attentive service and a fun atmosphere. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, some find the prices a bit high for the portion sizes or certain flavor combinations, like the spicy pie, not to their preference.

"Reservations were made to celebrate a birthday with friends and family on 4/26 at 1:00 PM. Another party had reserved a large space in the restaurant, and when it turned out that our party had more attendees than expected, the wonderful hostess worked very quickly with the team to accommodate. We were reseated within minutes. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fun! A few of us will never look at pizza that same way again. Thank you for making our celebration that much more awesome! Highly recommend a visit to experience Pizzeria Beddia!"

"This was a great pizza spot right near my place. We got the spicy pie and it was perfectly spicy. Not too hot where you can’t taste the flavor of the sauce but really just exactly how I would have wanted it if I did it myself. Skip any drinks other than beer/wine here, not worth it. There was a unique caesar “salad” that was really more like a caesar over vegetables but it was good. I’ll be back!"

Justine Hulbert

"Our family celebrated summer birthdays in the "Hoagie Room" - what an AMAZING experience! The food was delicious! Each course bursting with flavor featuring locally grown ingredients (and some not so local ... brought here from Europe!) Our host, John, was attentive, accommodating to dietary needs, and extremely knowledgeable as to the origins of each menu item, how it was prepared, and what to expect with each course. The room was immaculate ... the 80's soundtrack provided a festive ambiance, too! Highly recommend 10/10! We will be back!"

Restaurants in Philadelphia

The most talked-about restaurant in Philadelphia is Pizzeria Beddia— Bon Appétit named it the best pizza place in America. This second iteration, just blocks away from Beddia's first spot, is a different world, with more than 100 seats, the ability to make reservations, and a larger menu that goes beyond pizza—think natural wines, flavorful salads, and creamier-than-you-can-ever-imagine soft serve. The pizza is the focal point, though, with options like a classic red pie with pepperoni, a red-sauce-based anchovy pizza, and the white pie, made with local cream and topped with garlic and greens.

Pizzeria Beddia is one of the more fun places to eat in Philly (not to mention one of the best), and their outdoor setup is no different. During the summer, they open up the back patio—filled with long green picnic tables—so you can have incredible small plates, pizza, and natural wines while taking in the rays. Make a reservation or walk up and put your name on the waitlist, and do some Fishtown people watching between bites of a pie stacked with Calabrian cream, mozzarella, Grana Padano, and greens.

Best Pizza in Philadelphia: Pizza Shops With the Best Slices in Town

Pizzeria Beddia has come a long way since sparking national hysteria when Bon Appetit proclaimed it the best pizza in the country in 2015. Since then, pizza maker and owner Joe Beddia has opened a larger dining room with a full staff and dining, so you can try this top-tier pie at the restaurant or at home. Debates can still ensue on what it really means to be the “best pizza” ever, but it’s much more fun to shut up, eat pizza, and enjoy the spot’s lovingly curated wine menu.

The best pizza to eat in Philadelphia right now

What started as a small, no-phone operation is now an always-bustling restaurant in Fishtown where heat-blistered wheels of pizza arrive to tables along with a long list of natural wines and local beer. Pizzas come spanned with your choice of toppings, but ordering one of the pizzeria’s staple pies is a good idea. In particular, the “angry” red arrabbiata pie is so amped with layers of lip-stinging spice — Thai chilies steeped into the sauce; pickled serranos scattered like green poker chips across every inch, their spiraling heat rising on the herbal lift of basil — that it sets a new threshold on the pleasure-pain continuum.

Pizza, natural wine, and nice salads might just be your personal recipe for birthday success. Beddia does these things extremely well, all in a lofty Fishtown space that you'd have to be the Mayor of Friendville to adequately fill. As an alternative to the a la carte menu, the team at Beddia also offers a group pizza party (this option will show up in Resy when you reserve for more than five people.) For $45 a person, you'll get a family-style selection of small plates (hello, Judion beans) and salads (hello, chicory caesar), plus your choice of pizza and soft serve.

36 Hours in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

When I visited Philadelphia back in 2015, Pizzeria Beddia was at the top of my list of places to eat – but I never made it there. At the time, the pizza shop was serving only forty pies a day, and all to-go. In the end, I decided it wasn’t worth the risk to spend my precious vacation time in line, waiting for a pizza I might not even get.
