A popular destination here in downtown phoenix. The drinks are phenomenal and the steak was sublime. Though the establishment is small, we were charmed by its vibrant ambience and excellent customer service. Reviews Summary

Bacanora PHX is celebrated for its exceptional Sonoran cuisine, vibrant atmosphere, and passionate staff, though it's a small and often difficult-to-get-into spot. Diners rave about the mesquite-grilled flavors and unique dishes like the elote. While prices are on the higher side, many find the quality and overall experience well worth it, making it a highly recommended destination for a special occasion.

"I finally made it to the Bacanora in Phoenix—after hearing the buzz from food blogs, news features, and more personal recommendations than I can count. To say the anticipation was high would be an understatement. When you’re talked about in such legendary tones, the bar isn’t just raised—it’s sky-high.

So when I told my friends I actually scored a reservation, the looks I got were priceless—pure disbelief and envy. But I get it. Bacanora has earned its reputation as one of the toughest tables to land in town, and now that I’ve experienced it, I understand why.

From the moment we stepped in, the energy was electric. The space is intimate, even cozy, but bursting with passion and purpose. The team doesn’t just serve food—they present it, with a genuine pride that’s infectious. Every server, every bartender, every person working there clearly loves what they do, and it shows in every detail.

Yes, the menu is small—but that only sharpened the sense of anticipation. With fewer dishes, I believe each one should be flawless. And Bacanora delivered in spades. Every single bite was a knockout—bold, nuanced, and utterly unforgettable. I walked in with possibly the highest expectations I’ve ever carried into a restaurant, and somehow… they blew me away.

We sat at the bar, and CJ took care of us like we were old friends. Her cocktail knowledge was on point, her timing perfect, and her vibe—fun, sharp, and downright delightful. The rest of the team—Ceara, Loghan, Sydney, Jose, and Wiwo—formed one of the most cohesive and enthusiastic crews I’ve ever seen. There’s a rhythm and synergy in that space that makes the experience not just a meal, but a moment.

Bacanora is the kind of place that reminds you why people fall in love with food. It’s not just the flavors—it’s the people, the story, the heart behind it. This was more than a dinner. It was a celebration of what happens when talent, soul, and vision come together.

Easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had—anywhere."

"Bacanora is a true gem tucked away on a corner. Small in size but big on flavor. From the moment we walked in, the service was friendly, attentive, and welcoming, making the experience feel warm and personal.

We started with drinks and two appetizers that set the tone for the rest of the meal — fresh, vibrant, and packed with incredible flavors. We shared a main dish that was perfectly portioned for sharing. Dessert was great.

Prices are on the higher side ($$$), but absolutely worth it for the quality, authenticity, and overall experience. I highly recommend Bacanora to anyone looking for a special night out with phenomenal food. I’ll definitely be back soon to explore more of their menu!"

"The stars aligned and I scored a reservation here for my and my partners anniversary (after applying for reservations for MONTHS). The experience was amazing!
The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, and I get the feeling they like to be there! The food was unbearably -eyes closed while I ate - good. The ambiance was intimate and adorable. I can see why it's tough to get a table here.
We shared an elote appetizer and the steak main course. It was a lot of beautiful food. No salt needed. That's how I rate my food at restaurants... if I have to request the salt shaker... and here, I did not. It was the best meal experience I've had in a long time. Highly recommend!"

13 Best Mexican Restaurants in Phoenix

Bacanora is one of the must try restaurants in Phoenix right now. Chef René Andrade–who is from Sonora and named the restaurant after the agave spirit grown in that Mexican state–serves up dazzling wood-fired Sonoran comfort food on Grand Avenue in downtown Phoenix. The tiny, bright space became an immediate favorite among locals upon opening last year, and Rene’s win for Best Chef of the Southwest at this year’s James Beard Awards has only made it more difficult to snag a reservation (you can secure a reservation online now).

Rene Andrade and Roberto Centeno continue to tear it up at their thumping boombox of a restaurant that’s as brash and bratty as it is delicious. The cousins’ contemporary Sonoran cuisine arrived as a statement and endures as a mission, humble Mexican roots filtered through the eyes of a pair of talented chefs and forged in the fire of the wood-burning grill in back.
