In other cities, Lux Central would be too cool for school; here, it may have all the hipster hallmarks – permanent semi-darkness, tattooed staff, designer brews, aged mescal cocktails dotted with jewels of agave – but it’s impossible to remain chill in the face of its pancake breakfasts (from $9), steak’n’eggs lunches and fabulous in-house bakery. And it’s a bakery that delights with cherry streusel pies, “turtle brownies”, doughnuts and chocolate espresso bundt cake. Lux calls itself a coffee bar … it’s so much more.

Everything you ever dreamed a cafe could be, Lux Central encompasses within its sophisticated ambiance, thoughtfully bold decor, and lively clientele. Throughout the day, most come for fresh coffee made from beans that are hand-roasted in house, and as darkness falls upon the desert, intricate craft cocktails begin hitting their dimly lit bar top. It’s no wonder that Lux has developed what can be regarded as the most esteemed reputation among Phoenix coffee shops, every inch of the building has been thoughtfully designed to enrich their guest’s experience, morning, afternoon, or evening.

Lux Central is a rustic café and bakery with a lively atmosphere in the evenings that serves an ever-changing menu of farm-to-table fare, an extensive list of espresso drinks, and a full bar menu of craft beers, casual wines, and handcrafted cocktails. Professional baristas create creative coffee drinks with hand-roasted coffee beans from Brazil, Sumatra, Nicaragua, which can be enjoyed in one of three themed rooms. The bustling, late-night coffee shop has plenty of community-style seating and has become one of uptown Phoenix’s trendy go-to spots for hanging out with friends.

To put it not-so-simply, it’s croissant dough, expertly laminated by the skilled hands of owner and baker Katie Calahan and her teamto create all those delicate, flaky layers, too many to count. Then it’s twisted and turned just so, and finished with fine sugar spiked with just the right zing of orange zest, to take it from damn good to divine. Each bite is a texture trip, an exercise in composition and contrasts, so you simultaneously get sweet, crispy, chewy, billowy, buttery, and zesty with each pull-apart mouthful.

Lux is a beloved Phoenix institution not only for its good java but also its hip, unique atmosphere. That makes it an attractive location to post a photo from, but they’ve also got colorful, beautiful food. The fact of the matter is that Phoenix has a wide array of photogenic coffee shops with beautiful interiors and nice natural light, and we could probably do an article on those alone.

Central Phoenix’s premiere hip coffee hangout is easy to overlook as a full-blown breakfast destination, but that would be a mistake. Dishes like a perfect, simple breakfast sandwich and a delicate Dutch baby pancake buried in fresh berries are joined by a panoply of killer pastries, like a sponge-tender coffee cake with deliciously sweet crumble and a mighty fine croissant.

Their coffee counter features a rich offering of delicious and decadent pastries—you’ll struggle to pick just one; take a few!. At night, LUX turns into an eclectic bar, where you can order beer, wine, or specialty cocktails.

It is the most visited destination for locals and visitors looking for a high-quality coffee experience in Phoenix.

LUX: Lux made an appearance on our post about the best coffee houses in Phoenix and they are back again as one of our favorite donut shops in Phoenix. Lux is an incredible spot for a unique donut fix. Just be aware that they rotate their pastry selections and so you never known what flavors you might get or when they might run out of donuts on offer.

Customers enter the unmarked concrete building and are met with an eclectic assortment of styles, including colorful sofas, coffee table tree stumps, and long picnic-style tables for working or dining. Local artists hang their creations on the walls, hoping for a sale. A bustling coffee bar and kitchen sit in the center of the L-shaped room.

And most counterculture I find have a few things in common—lots of thrift-store finds, everything is repurposed, ideas are overflowing, and spaces are generally chaotic. That’s Lux, although Lux got so popular that it’s starting to seem normal now. When you walk in, it’s like you’re in an alternate world, separate from normal Phoenix.

From their tasty coffee to their tempting pastries, this bakery and café is impossible to pass up. Their bustling yet focused atmosphere is the perfect place to study and snack. With new treats each day that you can sneak a peek at on their Instagram account, Lux is always an exciting place to eat and hang out at.

Both casual and luxurious, Lux Central is definitely one of the best cafes in town. Lux also offers macaroni and cheese that has been described as the best in all of Phoenix. However, for the java jolt, consider trying the espresso macchiato or white-out cappuccino. You’ll also find daily creations to try every day from 11:30 to 3:00 for the lunch crowd.

While the scene is occasionally chaotic, Lux coffee house is well-worth the hectic crowd. From the heavily caffeinated Americano to the subtler homemade chai, people fiend over the deliciousness that Lux has to offer. Open Sunday-Thursday, 6 a.m.-12 a.m.

Lux is a hip coffee house and wine and cocktail bar in a large, industrial building in midtown Phoenix. I used to spend a lot of time here when I lived in the area, thanks to its large menu, free Wi-Fi, and long hours. It's open from 6 a.m.

This hip, urban hotspot is the place to go for incredible java. Their retro mismatched seating makes for a comfortable and fun spot to catch up with friends or meet new people. If you’re not a coffee drinker, check out their Italian sodas.

Lux Central is one of my favorites for not only their drinks and bites, but I always run into friends there. It’s the spot where I see old friends and pick to meet new friends.

If you find yourself in Phoenix proper, Lux on Central between Indian School and Camelback is supposed to be excellent.
