mozzarella sticks with both marinara AND calabrian chili ranch? sign me up. just discovered that Alta Via Pizzeria in @Bakery Square has a great lunch special: 🍕 quarter-pie slice with half of any salad or Parmesan Fries for just $12. but of course I’m a crazy person and convinced everyone to do an entire pizza, the big veggie to be specific. and we added both ricotta and prosciutto. 11/10. #the...

Reviews Summary

Alta Via offers a modern Italian dining experience with highly praised handmade pasta and a stylish atmosphere. Diners frequently compliment the attentive service and delicious appetizers like focaccia and burrata salad. However, some reviews mention occasional issues with undercooked pasta, slow service during peak times, and inconsistent flavor profiles.

"Delicious dinner at Alta Via with Edward as server! Highly recommend the tuna tartare to start and a salad which can be shared by two if you plan to have a full sized entree. Lots of good pasta dishes to choose from. Only a 4 for service because hostesses are always indifferent and unaccommodating. This is a customers first point of contact - a customers first impression. I'm not sure what these young girls seating customers are not taught this. (FYI - This is our experience each and every time we visit - underwhelming, cold greeting and treatment from them.) Otherwise, top notch. Love our server, Edward!"

"We had a wonderful time celebrating birthday dinner at this beautiful restaurant. The ambiance is lovely, with a great vibe that makes for a perfect dining experience.

We started with Brussels Sprouts, which were incredibly tasty. For mains, we ordered the Ravioli- delicious but on the heavier side and the fusilli pasta, which was okay. We ended the meal with tiramisu which was decent but didn't stand out.

What truly elevated the experience, was the outstanding service. Our host was attentive, checked on us frequently and provided great recommendations. Overall, it's a fantastic spot for a nice dinner, and we enjoyed our time there.

Would recommend reservation as the place gets busy."

"Great ambiance! 2nd visit here. Ordered the butternut squash ravioli, fusilli and Brussel sprouts. The ravioli was good but not a lot of flavor. The foccacia bread was amazing! Many places that serve foccacia don't do a great job. The fusilli was very tasty and the whipped marscapone was the perfect fit. Server was friendly, but I did have a wait a bit for a refill on my drink even though he walked by several times. Decor is great and it's very cozy! Also, love that you can order the small or large portions. Great option!"

Here Are the 26 Best Restaurants in Pittsburgh

Inspired by the flavors of Northern California and Italy, Alta Via (both at its original O’Hara location and its newer outpost in Market Square) takes a fresh, contemporary approach to Italian cuisine, steering clear of clichés like checkered tablecloths and oversized plates of red sauce. Instead, under the guidance of big Burrito partner Bill Fuller, Alta Via leans into the refined simplicity of house-made pastas and vegetable-heavy dishes, like a plate of baby artichokes served with fresh mint-salsa crudo. Fuller has spent years fine-tuning Alta Via’s concept, drawing inspiration both from his time living in the Bay Area and his travels through Europe.
