Kayak Pittsburgh's new downtown rental spot next to the convention center is truly awesome. We've been wanting to kayak on the rivers around the Confluence for a while now, and are really glad we checked this one out right after it opened. In just about 10 minutes from walking up we were in the water, and with two hour rentals we managed to go around the Point, all the way to the Smithfield Street...

Reviews Summary

Kaya offers a vibrant Caribbean and South American dining experience with a lively atmosphere and consistently good food. Diners rave about unique appetizers like conch fritters and flavorful entrees, while also appreciating the attentive service and enjoyable outdoor seating. Some guests have noted minor issues with food temperature or seasoning, but overall, it's considered a must-visit Pittsburgh gem.

"Kaya in the Strip District is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, the vibe is warm, inviting, and full of energy. The menu is bursting with bold Caribbean flavors, and every dish we tried was packed with depth and deliciousness. You can tell the chefs really care about what they’re doing—everything tasted fresh, balanced, and unique.

Whether you’re going for a casual meal or a fun night out, Kaya hits the mark. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food? Simply unforgettable. If you’re in Pittsburgh and love vibrant, flavorful food, do yourself a favor and eat here. Highly recommend!"

"Kaya was a great last minute find during my trip to Pittsburgh. After work I was craving a Sangria which is how this place came up in my search. Although I didn’t end up going with the Sangria, the dining experience was just as satisfying.

Starting with the drinks, I came across a Mai Tai while
looking at the Yelp photos that looked too good to pass up. Although it wasn’t currently on the menu, the bartender was still able to make it for me. It was delicious, to the point where I couldn’t settle with just one. It had to be a strong pour because I stared at the second one for a while before partaking.

The food was good, but not outstanding. I had the pineapple tomatillo salsa, jerk wings, and carrot & cauliflower paella. The pineapple tomatillo salsa was the star of the show by a landslide!! It was so fresh and flavorful. The jerk wings could’ve been a little more seasoned and cooked longer but that’s a personal preference, and my fault for not asking for well done. The paella was flavorful but after a 20 minute wait I was disappointed it arrived lukewarm and I had to send it back.

The ambience of the restaurant was cozy and authentic. I appreciated they offered outdoor seating options if you wanted to enjoy the Pittsburgh Summer night. Overall 8/10."

"Great vibe! Ordered the conch- fritters for an appetizer! I got the Jamaican jerk chicken tacos (newly added to their menu) which great! Very smoky jerked chicken, balanced with the pineapple jalapeño salsa, with a fair amount of spice from the jalapeño. my friend got the Original Fried chicken and he said the chicken was very crispy and a bit thin with a lot of crunch. Regardless, we both would recommend all of these!

(I also ordered a coke and the waitress said that she had Mexican coke which is a win in my book!)"

13 great places for outdoor dining in Pittsburgh right now

This rarely ever happens, but one of Pittsburgh’s best restaurants has been open for more than 20 years — and still finds ways to surprise diners and stay fresh. Kaya has always had a slim line of outdoor tables on its tight Strip District sidewalk but has found creative ways to expand the outdoor space on 20th Street, too. The secret sauce at Kaya has always been the broad swath of Caribbean and South American cuisine, from a Steak Cuban Sandwich or a Jerk Chicken Torta to Chile Relleno or Tropical Paella.
