A few of the more casual places we enjoy are Henry's 12th Street Tavern, Mama Mia's Trattoria, Portland Brewery, and the Manzana Grill. Henry's and Manzana are owned by the same corporate group, although their menus are very different. We like a few of these for dinner, but they are really great for lunch.

Deschutes Brewery — pronounced “duh-shoots” — is located in Portland’s lively Pearl District just west of the Willamette River, though it was established in Bend, Oregon, in 1988. This award-winning brewery boasts thousands of five-star reviews on Google, sells over 200,000 barrels annually, and distributes its products to 32 states. A big winner at the 2024 World Beer Cup, the brewery is especially known for its non-alcoholic selection, including Black Butte and Fresh-Squeezed IPA. Deschutes’ Portland Public House is open seven days a week, keeps an active events calendar featuring Trivia Nights, and offers private dining and pub rentals.

Although I didn’t get the chance to make it to the Deschutes Brewery on my trip to Portland, I’ve tried my fair share of Deschutes beer and, let me say, I’m a big fan. The Deschutes Portland Public House is located right across the street from the Backwoods Brewing Company and, with tons of open seating and a full menu, looks like a great spot to drink, eat, and enjoy your time in Portland!. Make sure to make it for happy hour Monday-Friday from 2:00-4:00 PM.

The hugely popular Portland public house of Bend, OR-based Deschutes Brewery has quietly reopened and added new street seating along NW Davis St. Nearly half of Deschutes PDX's tables are now outdoors, which leaves plenty of room for distancing both inside and out. The pub still operates with a full menu and hosted seating but the outdoor tables are dog friendly (no smoking) and are open 11:30am to 9pm every day. 210 NW 11th Ave, Portland, OR 97209

The craft brewing pioneers in Portland are Widmer, McMenamins, and Bridgeport. While Deschutes, Rogue, and Full Sail didn’t start in Portland, they all have brewpubs or ale houses here now, and I’d say that those fall in to that classic category, too. The other big names in craft beer here are Portland Brewing/MacTarnahan's, Bridgeport, Widmer Bros. (known for their hefeweizen), Rogue, Full Sail, and Deschutes. All of them have pubs of their own in addition to being available all over town. There are also well-known independents like Hopworks, Lucky Labrador, New Old Lompoc, Raccoon Lodge, Hair of the Dog and Rock Bottom (which is part of a chain, but there's only one in Portland).

This Scottish brewery has earned itself a name in Portland with its 18 versatile beers on tap which includes seasonal ales, experimental beers, and Deschutes mainstays. Locals love this brewery because it has lots of group seating, making it perfect for a casual night out with the boys or a gossip session with the girls at odd hours of the night. Deschutes Brewery is best known for the Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Pale Ale.

Known for flavorful pub ales, Deschutes has a nice menu of diverse offerings, making it an excellent gathering spot for groups with varied tastes—not to mention one of the best nightlife spots in Portland’s Pearl District. This award-winning Brewery is known for its Black Butte Porter, Hachimitsu Mai Japanese lager, Fresh-Squeezed IPA, and The Abyss. The pub is open daily and has a party room available by reservation.

The breweries we visited included Von Ebert Brewing, Deschutes Portland Public House, Backwoods Brewing, 10 Barrel Brewing, Upright Brewing, Rogue Eastside Pub & Pilot Brewery, Cascade Brewing, and Deschutes Brewery PDX. As half of our crew had never been to Portland before, there were also some tourist stops, such as Pine State Biscuits, Voodoo Donuts, The Big Legrowlski, Kelly’s Olympian, and Poet’s Beach.

For families with little kids, it truly does not get better than Deschutes Brewery’s Portland Public House. The Pearl brewpub has everything for the makings of a pleasant night out with your kids. You’ll find a reasonably priced kid’s menu — with options like grilled cheese, buttered noodles or seared salmon — that include a side and drink; coloring pages and crayons; and large tables and booths.

Just north of Widmer, newcomer Ecliptic released its first beers late last year. Helmed by longtime local beer industry alum, John Harris (his CV includes McMenamins, Deschutes and Full Sail), the brews have froth-heads aflutter for an opening lineup that includes an unfiltered kellerbier, the Riesling-spiked Rigel Sparkling Ale and a crisp and dry stout.

Situated in the Pearl, Deschutes is one of the most popular breweries in Portland with a beautiful tap room and delicious beers. Started in Bend (not the only one on this list) Deschutes is one of the oldest and most commercially successful breweries in the state. Despite its size, Deschutes is family owned and damn proud of it.

A staple in Oregon’s craft beer scene, Deschutes Brewery continues to push boundaries with its seasonal, year-round, and specialty brews. The brewery is hosting a media event April 25, allowing a sneak peek at the new digs. The brewery is located in swanky Pearl District and will offer a similar selection of craft brews and pub food that has made Deschutes famous. Unlike other friends who don’t write or call, Deschutes will stay connected to Central Oregon.

The brewery was established in 1988, selling a modest 310 barrels of beer that year. The business has continued to grow as craft beer and microbrews became more popular. Today, Deschutes Brewery sells more than 225,000 barrels per year and their beer can be found in all 50 U.S. states, according to their website.

This brewpub always has a gluten-free beer on tap and some ciders. For food, you’ll find that their menu has plenty of gluten-free options available, including burgers, salads, appetizers and some mains. Please inform the waiters you are a celiac so they can tell you what’s safe to eat.

For some dinner and microbrews, Jimmy would recommend Deschutes Brewery for great food and amazing beer. He wanted to try a few of the beers on tap so he got a flight. I was mainly in it for the food and so we got the elk burger and some other things.

Deschutes Brewery is one of the more famous local breweries, found in many specialty grocery stores around the west coast. Their brew pub offers scrumptious food as well as a huge selection of their beer on tap, including many not found in stores.

Deschutes Brewery & Public House: In addition to brewing gluten-free suds, Deschutes delights with an entire menu for the gluten-free diner, including exclusive eats like spicy paprika fries and a quinoa and cashew burger.

Breakside Brewery – With locations, including its pub in Northeast Portland Breakside Brewery is renowned for its inventive beers and has earned several accolades such as medals from the Great American Beer Festival.

Deschutes Brewery is a really popular Portland lunch spot in the Pearl District. The pub menu serves all sorts of indulgent food to pair with the beer brewed on-site. Linguini, burgers, beer-infused mac and cheese.

Although started outside of portland, Deschutes and Rogue in NW are some of the better locations. I like Lompoc as well. Hard to decide on them all, but if you're into beer, there's beer to be had.

Deschutes Brewery is famous for its large patio where families and pets are welcome. It has great beers like the Fresh Squeezed IPA. They also have seasonal beers that use local ingredients.
