Reviews Summary

Deschutes Brewery Portland Public House is praised for its extensive and delicious craft beer selection, with many highlighting specific brews like the Black Butte Porter. The pub food is generally well-received, with the elk burger and pretzel appetizer being standouts. However, some guests have noted inconsistency in food quality, with a few experiencing disappointing fish and chips or overly smoked chicken. The atmosphere is often described as cozy and family-friendly, though service can occasionally be slow during peak times, especially for outdoor seating which requires app-based ordering.

"So nice we visited twice! Been a fan of Deschutes for a few decades now so it’s great to finally visit one of their locations. Massive array of styles available but the Black Butte was particularly delicious. Menu is upscale pub food with the price to match. Great dessert options, plenty of merch for sale, and friendly folk."

Matthew Garcia

"There was an option to have table service or order with a Qr Code and we chose the code.
I chose to pick my own beer flight. I like that option because Iv
don't usually care for IPA and love the stouts and porters so I chose accordingly.
Today's soup special was a Curry Chicken and it was delicious! I also ordered the Kale Caesar salad with smoked chicken. It was good but for me, personally, the chicken was smoked a little too much, even though the flavor was good. The grated Parmesan was very generous on top.
I loved the atmosphere. It had a very cozy vibe.
Great beer. Great restaurant."

Carol Post

"Food was overall pretty scrumptious. My Black bean burger came with a foccacia bun, which was unique and fun. Everything was warm, filling, and well made.
The desserts were all good too! We got the cookie dough cake without the espresso fudge, so it was kinda dry (that's on us though; we just don't like espresso). The marionberry cobbler was mostly warm berries; we wished it had more topping and ice cream.

The atmosphere is wonderful; nice big ceilings and good space between tables. The staff were great."

A few of the more casual places we enjoy are Henry's 12th Street Tavern, Mama Mia's Trattoria, Portland Brewery, and the Manzana Grill. Henry's and Manzana are owned by the same corporate group, although their menus are very different. We like a few of these for dinner, but they are really great for lunch.

Although I didn’t get the chance to make it to the Deschutes Brewery on my trip to Portland, I’ve tried my fair share of Deschutes beer and, let me say, I’m a big fan. The Deschutes Portland Public House is located right across the street from the Backwoods Brewing Company and, with tons of open seating and a full menu, looks like a great spot to drink, eat, and enjoy your time in Portland!. Make sure to make it for happy hour Monday-Friday from 2:00-4:00 PM.

Beercation, Revisited: Portland, Oregon

The craft brewing pioneers in Portland are Widmer, McMenamins, and Bridgeport. While Deschutes, Rogue, and Full Sail didn’t start in Portland, they all have brewpubs or ale houses here now, and I’d say that those fall in to that classic category, too. And while it’s newer, I think that Hopworks Urban Brewery is so Portland–organic beer, family friendly pubs, dedication to sustainability and bike culture." — Lila Martin, Travel Portland

The other big names in craft beer here are Portland Brewing/MacTarnahan's, Bridgeport, Widmer Bros. (known for their hefeweizen), Rogue, Full Sail, and Deschutes. All of them have pubs of their own in addition to being available all over town. There are also well-known independents like Hopworks, Lucky Labrador, New Old Lompoc, Raccoon Lodge, Hair of the Dog and Rock Bottom (which is part of a chain, but there's only one in Portland).
