What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Laurelhurst Market offers a unique steakhouse and butcher shop experience, with many praising the quality of the steaks and the lively ambiance. Diners enjoy the attentive service and the inviting outdoor deck. However, some reviews mention inconsistent seasoning, particularly with salt, and occasional service lags.
"Reserved a table a few days ahead and was seated immediately in a prime spot upon walking in. Lovely service, the servers know exactly what they are doing. Cocktails are STRONG but delicious. The food was cooked to perfection, definitely recommend getting the mac n cheese to share with the table."

"We very much enjoyed our lunch here. We ordered a salad and a sandwich and split both. It was a good thing we were hungry, because we probably could have just split one of them and had plenty of food. If you are looking for plain, bland food, this is not your place. There was lots of fun and tasty food combinations just in the two meals we ordered. The only minor issue we had was with our sandwich: we asked for the mayonnaise to be put on the side of the sandwich. They left the mayo off the sandwich, but forgot to put it on the side. I went back and ask for it on the side, which they readily and quickly accommodated.
There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating here. We sat in a large tent covered, deck area that was a nice combination of being out of the sun, but not being inside. I would definitely come back here for lunch. Thanks for the tasty meal!"

"This steakhouse has some incredible meat! The beef tartar was some of the best I've had. Crispy calamari was cooked perfectly; not chewy, breading not overpowering. I went with a New York, friend went with the ribeye. My new York came cooked to perfection (medium rare) and was incredible. My friends ribeye was amazing too. It had a silky buttery flavor behind it that was something special. Our server was exceptional and I feel bad for not remembering her name to put in this review. Never asked how food was when our mouths were full. Perfect balance of service and leaving us to enjoy the meal.
I will be back and cant wait to try more off their menu."

Best Sandwiches in Portland: Good Sandwich Shops to Order From Now
Laurelhurst Since the pandemic, Laurelhurst Market has reopened with a new model; the steakhouse and butcher shop now has a full lunch menu, but the hearty deli sandwiches remain, and can now be enjoyed out on the newly constructed patio or taken to go as before. A few of the sandwiches stay on daily, like the cold corn beef on baguette; hot pastrami and swiss on a hoagie; or the truly excellent turkey with bacon and arugula on levain, while others are offered as a daily special, like a fried chicken sandwich or steak melt with sauteed peppers. Takeout and patio seating.
Portland’s Best Restaurant Patios
Sure, there’s a lovely dining room inside, but the sizable covered deck at this butcher shop and steakhouse is the go-to place to gorge yourself on lunchtime roast turkey sandwiches or evening steak frites. The great wooden deck takes up most of the former parking lot, illuminated by a canopy of twinkly lights; its size and vibe make it a worthy contender for large, alfresco celebration dinners—particularly those involving updated steakhouse classics, from caramelized onion mac and cheese to grilled New York strip steaks. There’s no classier place for a patio date night than OK Omens’ tree-covered sidewalk setup.
Portland's 17 best sandwich shops, ranked
Instead, our top spot goes to Laurelhurst Market's deli, which serves its impressive sandwiches seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., using meat smoked and cured in-house and plenty of Fleur de Lis bread (accept no imitations). Each day brings fresh specials, and some of those make blips, including Wednesday's mighty steak melt (as good as you would expect from one of Portland's top steakhouses) and last year's "five napkin" chicken, a smoked and grilled chicken sandwich that's already landed its own spin-off restaurant, Big's Chicken, coming later this month to 5663 N.E.

Where To Get a Great Sandwich AND AN EQUALLY GOOD Chocolate Chip Cookie
The city’s finest steakhouse by night is one of its best sandwich shops by day. With options like a roast beef sandwich that’s made with its house-butchered, mushroom-rubbed round roast, or deli-sliced smoked turkey and bacon with house-picked zucchinis, Laurelhurst is artisanal AF. But they’re not precious about it—these are sandwiches after all.
