Jake, the sourdough starter (yes, she named it), is an integral part of their pizza’s flavor profile and is only fed the finest locally milled grains. Minnick’s highly seasonal menu features the bounty of nearby farms, making for creative toppings and playful combinations (don’t be surprised if you find fresh flowers on your slice).

Adorn gorgeously baked pizzas with market-fresh produce and unusual cheeses, then deliver those pies to a cozy dining room home to a counter filled with arguably the city’s best ice cream. What more do you need?. We dropped by Lovely’s Fifty Fifty at its late-summer peak, when chanterelle mushrooms mingled with gremolata and a smoked Basque sheep’s milk cheese on one pie, while the fan-favorite peach mingled with guanciale, shishito peppers and sweet corn on another.

No list of the best ice cream in Portland, Oregon is complete without mentioning Lovely’s Fifty Fifty. Though this is a wood-fired pizza joint first and foremost, you can’t afford to skip the ice cream. Made with seasonal ingredients sourced from nearby farms, you can grab the ice cream to-go or enjoy it after a proper wood-fired pie (but the wait to get seated is terribly long most days of the week).

Romero is also a member of the New Guard, alongside Chef Sarah Minnick of the pioneering pizza haunt Lovely’s Fifty Fifty, which was featured on a recent episode of Netflix’s Chef’s Table: Pizza. And that spot doesn’t disappoint. Minnick is serving up seasonal, vegetable-forward pizza like a chanterelle mushroom pie with watercress and (somehow) horseradish which I destroyed on a Friday night.

The "Fifty Fifty" in Lovely’s refers to pizza and ice cream—two of the best things in the world. It's basically the most Portland restaurant I can think of. Everything there is 100% locally sourced.
