Reviews Summary

Stammtisch is celebrated for its authentic German cuisine and impressive beer selection, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere. Diners rave about dishes like the Jägerschnitzel and the quality of the wursts, alongside excellent service. However, some reviews mention that certain dishes, like potato pancakes or schnitzel itself, can be inconsistent in preparation or flavor.

"Authentically German with a incredible selection of beers. Decor is on point and food has great range from traditional to up scale done all really well.

Strudel is slightly Americanized and a touch too sweet."

"Beautiful restaurant and lovely staff. Our server was super helpful with my gluten-challenged friend and modified her order without changing the essence of her plate. We had to get the classic pork shoulder. Sometimes you just need a hearty German meal. The pork shoulder and schnitzel and beer were all good and rightfully in the spotlight but the hidden detail for me the authenticity of their sauerkraut and red cabbage sauerkraut. It was densely good and with character and unlike anything I’ve eaten from a jar. Healing."

"Prost! We stopped by this place on a whim, and it did not disappoint! The beers were delicious and huge, the food was top-quality with all of the many different flavors that worked so well together, and the atmosphere was extremely cozy. The curry ketchup is out of this world, by the way! Definitely will be returning soon ❤️😍💥"

The 40 best restaurants in Portland you need to try

But don’t let the lagers served in giant glass boots food you: the food here is quite serious. The menu, from former St. Jack sous chef Graham Cheney, is designed to match the deep selection of celebrated imports flowing from the taps, including seasonal soups, silky German ravioli dressed in butter and white wine or bacon-braised rabbit with wild chanterelles. Even the street food-inspired dishes are better than they need to be, from the pretzels with their cup of translucent schmaltz to the paper boats of juicy currywurst and shoestring fries.

There isn't a single bad choice on the Stammtisch dinner menu, but the Jägerschnitzel is the way to go. It's a perfectly gossamer pork cutlet in a savory—yet surprisingly light—mushroom gravy, plus two side dishes (get the spätzle and red cabbage if you know what's good for you). Pro tip: If you prefer your schnitzel fried, you can get the jäger gravy on the Wienerschnitzel and have it both ways.
