Reviews Summary

Nicks on Broadway is celebrated for its imaginative, hyper-local New American cuisine and friendly, attentive service. Diners rave about the unique open-kitchen experience and the freshness of the ingredients. While the food and atmosphere are consistently praised, some reviews mention occasional slow kitchen service, particularly during busy brunch hours.

"Parking tricky but it’s so so so worth the wait!! Oh my god beauti seating and interior, too cold for the outside patio, but the food arrive 35 minutes in to our arrival time and let me just tell you I did not disappoint the spices. Everything in the black beans was absolutely amazing. My grandmother truly enjoyed herself herself.
I will definitely be back. Food is so worth the way. It is so good. You can really taste authenticity and well that goes into it. This is probably the best places to ever get a match picking up sandwich.
The mimosas are amazing along with their verbal teas.
Did you have a Valentine special today for $ 25 person each. Definitely will be packed and amazing and amazing experience and such amazing waiters"

"We came to Providence for an anniversary trip and saw many people recommend Nick’s for dinner or brunch. We booked a reservation for the Chef Tasting Menu and we were not disappointed. They were very responsive and helpful via email. They were able to accommodate a pescatarian diet and the food was INCREDIBLE. Our dinner experience here was truly a highlight of our trip. The staff were friendly, attentive, and really made our dinner special. I’ve heard that you can leave some tasting dinners still hungry, but not here! By the end, we were stuffed, but every dish was so delicious we didn’t want to leave a bite on the plate. My favorite was the main, a mackerel dish that I will probably be craving forever. They even gave us a printed menu of what we had before we left to commemorate our dinner. Thank you to the whole staff so much for making this such a special meal!"

"Who doesn’t love brunch! A cute restaurant tucked away on the streets of Rhode Island. Has indoor and outdoor dining. Scrumptious, fresh from the farm food. You can definitely taste the difference! The pancakes were incredible! Definitely a must!!! Had a nice hint of cinnamon. A great choice of menu and drink items."

Restaurants in Providence

For two decades Derek Wagner has earned a seat at the table among Rhode Island's top chefs by helming this amped-up diner on Providence's West Side (the namesake "Nick" was the owner of the original diner at the site). Breakfast features classic comfort food like pancakes and egg dishes composed with all-local ingredients, like eggs from Baffoni Farms and potatoes from Schartner Farms, and pasture-fed Blackbird Farm Black Angus beef shows up in the Bolognese sauce and slow-cooked BBQ, while all of the plated fish entrees at dinner were swimming in local waters a short time before. Grab a seat at the counter to watch the culinary magic happen.

Shucking Awesome Places to Get Oysters in Providence, Rhode Island

Don’t want to eat oysters, no problem – guests can drink oysters with the unique twist of The Industrious Spirit Company’s Ostreida, the first US vodka distilled with fresh oysters!. To create Ostreida, the ISCO team performed a distillation using 100% organic corn neutral spirit and just-hauled-from-the-sea local oysters. Ostreida Oyster Vodka captures the spirit of the ocean—notes of salty seacoast and savory minerality with a subtle hint of bivalve bouquet on the nose mix sublimely with their spirits’ signature buttery texture.

More than two decades ago, chef Derek Wagner was a young, recent culinary graduate of Johnson & Wales University and bought Nicks on Broadway from its former owner. With a menu refresh (but keeping the name), it didn’t take too long for him to make a name for himself, but also help put Providence on the map for good restaurants. He focuses on high-quality, hyper-local ingredients for his crowd-pleasing dishes for dinner — including his daily crudo plate, cheese boards, fresh pasta, and risotto dishes.

Tell Me Where: A Locals' Guide to Providence, Rhode Island

Chef and owner Derek Wagner, who was nominated for the James Beard Best Chef Northeast Award, changes the Nicks on Broadway menu according to what’s fresh and seasonal, which is my favorite way to dine. We were welcomed with sparkling wine and roasted oysters, then started with the charcuterie plate, featuring homemade pâté, rillettes and pickles. We also tried the ridiculously good cassoulet with slow-braised Rhode Island pork, chicken, white beans and onions.

Though this beloved mainstay is open morning through night, it’s the first meal of the day that perpetually packs in the crowds. Beyond the standard benedicts and pancakes – which are light and impossibly fluffy – you’ll discover less traditional offerings, such as Baffoni Farm chicken pâté on toast and a Point Judith fish filet tartine.

Exploring the Top 20 Brunch Spots in Providence

I stopped by on a Sunday and was pleased to find that the food was not only delicious but also reasonably priced. We did have a bit of a wait for our food, around 45 minutes, but the quality was worth it. The service was good, very polite staff, but keep in mind that you might have to wait a while, especially if you're in a rush.
