Pizza Marvin wants to be the pizza joint you grew up with—checkered serving paper, a guy with a ‘stache behind the counter, and unpretentious digs (think high tops and bar stools). But they don’t just sling your average joints’ pizzas, hence the long list of pies that include the Roni Island (pepperoni, cherry peppers, honey) and the Voyager (green goddess, kale, and taleggio). Grab a whole pie or fly by the slice, and don’t overlook the thick, faintly sweet, chewy, and overall phenomenal tomatoey slices.

What amazes me is the cultural diversity of the people here, which fosters a deep sense of curiosity,” says Robert Andreozzi, co-owner and chef of the wildly popular Pizza Marvin located in Fox Point. Curiosity and openness to new experiences are what fuel Providence’s vibrant creativity, allowing innovative restaurants and funky ideas to flourish. Since opening in late 2020, Pizza Marvin has cultivated a loyal following with its New Haven-style-inspired pizzas and classic, quirky 90’s style, crispy thick-crust cheese and pepperoni, locally harvested raw bar, inventive soft serve combinations, and cocktail combinations featuring local and seasonal flavors.

Each item on Pizza Marvin’s relatively short menu is better than the next. Start with house-made burrata served with zippy pesto and roasted carrots or tender meatballs topped with fluffy whipped ricotta, then dig into Nancy’s Chopped, a chopped salad that’s loaded with hunks of cured meats, crunchy greens, bitter radicchio, and cheese cubes. Naturally, you’ll need to order a pizza, either a single Sicillian-style slice or whole pie with thin, perfectly charred crust (and because it’s Rhode Island, of course there’s a Chowdah Pie with clams, bacon, potato, and herbs).

Pizza may be the perfect meal for almost any occasion, but there aren’t many restaurants that can pull off being the ideal option for first dates, graduation dinners, movie nights, Super Bowl parties, or when you want to pick up a box of wine and listen to Taylor Swift in your pajamas all night long. Enter Pizza Marvin, which might be home to the best pizza in New England outside of New Haven. It’s still pretty new (having opened in 2020), but owners Robert Andreozzi and Jesse Hedberg are already giving Sally’s, Pepe’s and Modern a run for their money.

Pizza geeks will find nods to local and regional institutions throughout the menu at Pizza Marvin, including New York City’s Prince Street Pizza and Modern Apizza in New Haven, all filtered through a distinctly Rhode Island lens. From the time it opened its doors in Fox Point, Pizza Marvin seemed to be a hit. With a distinct 80s nostalgia vibe and a menu that makes it hard to decide exactly which pie to choose, the corner pizzeria’s perfected dough is the canvas for both classic flavors and innovative combinations. At the beginning of the year, chef/owner Robert Andreozzi received a coveted James Beard nomination in the Best Chef Northeast category.

Pizza Marvin on Wickenden Street is a new pizza-focused restaurant that offers New Haven-style pizzas with retro ‘80s and ‘90s flare. The menu has plenty of pizza, but there are also other locally grown and sourced foods including oysters, littlenecks and other seafood. They are open for takeout and delivery.

In addition to Al Forno, you can choose from Pizza Marvin's monthly specials, Pizza Pie-er's endless build-your-own options, or Fellini Pizzeria's incredibly crispy thin crust. You're only steps away from some of the best pies Providence has to offer.
