What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Alewife garners significant praise for its innovative and delicious seafood dishes, creative cocktails, and lively atmosphere. Diners rave about the quality of the ingredients and the unique flavor combinations. However, some patrons have noted that portion sizes can be small for the price, and a few have found the reliance on citrus or vinegar flavors to be overpowering.
"One of the best restaurants in Richmond. I could eat those poached rock shrimp, fried clams, and tilefish every day and be happy. Cocktails were interesting and well-balanced too. I was also able to get a reservation at fairly short notice, which is always a plus. I’m hungry again just thinking about it!"

"Stopped in here on a whim and we were able to sit at the bar. Staff was very friendly and quick and they had great specials and drinks. Ordered the fish dip since so many reviews recommended it and was not disappointed, it was delicious. The special was a black char(I think) with eel sauce on sushi rice with marinated vegetables. The fish was one of the best pieces of fish I've had, perfection. My boyfriend ordered the schnitzel and it was pretty good, not the best I've ever had but still an enjoyable meal.
My only complaint was that they leaned very heavily into citrus/vinegar flavors, there wasn't enough to balance it out. I couldn't finish my meal because it was overwhelmingly vinegar-y, even the schnitzel had strong citrus elements."

"Overall had a decent experience. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was delicious. Our waiter seemed disinterested in serving us once we started asking a few questions about the menu, almost like they were annoyed that we weren’t familiar with the options. My husband was brought the incorrect beer and his portion of soft shell crab only had one piece when we saw other plates containing two being brought to other diners. My arctic char was really good though, very well seasoned and tasty. Would definitely come back for the food but hoping for a slightly better experience."
