A contemporary American eatery, Heritage aims to create the perfect symphony of food, drink and atmosphere. Triple threat Chef Joe Sparatta, mixologist Mattias Hägglund and manager Emilia Sparatta have a real passion for food, and this is reflected in Heritage’s impressive food and drink menu. Their dinner menu is a selection of small, medium and large plates to suit any appetite, and feature the likes of shrimp crackers, pimento croquettes, bourbon barrel smoked pork belly, and local cobia and tilefish.

Chef Joe Sparatta provides diners with approachable yet sophisticated seafood dishes like an addictive smoked fish dip, pimento croquettes, fried Rappohannock oysters, and local fluke and rockfish preparations that make the fish sing.

Heritage might be considered quintessentially Southern, and very Richmond, but chef Joe Sparatta has slipped his central-Jersey roots into the menu in the form of Taylor Ham, also known as a Pork Roll. Sparatta makes this regional delicacy, a bit like bologna but with a little more tang from lactic fermentation, in-house using heritage pork breeds — Berkshire and Ossabaw — raised by Autumn Olive Farms near Waynesboro. He pairs his pork simply with eggs and cheese; a workingman’s roadhouse breakfast elevated by premium ingredients and care.

We’ve talked about elevated and artisan cocktail menus before, but Heritage has always taken it to another level. We love sitting at the bar when we go to Heritage, because a) the bartenders are always super social and nice to chat with, and b) with all the droppers and different pours they use to make their concoctions, they look like they’re doing alchemy behind the bar, and it’s exceedingly fun to watch. Started in 2012 by Joe Sparatta and his wife Emilia, Heritage has been drawing Richmond dinner crowds since opening day. Heritage is an upscale restaurant that serves some of the best food, best cocktails, and friendliest wait staff. They have amassed many accolades over the years. Several publications have labeled them as “best restaurant.” The atmosphere is incredible and gives visitors a comfortable experience, and the food is wonderfully creative and delicious.

If you’re looking for a Fan classic, look no further than Heritage. Pork loin with marinated gigante beans, broccolini, garlic scape, pistachio pesto at Heritage. Chef and co-owner Joe Sparatta has been serving his unique twist on New American dishes since 2012, and the corner spot continues to hold up as one of the best restaurants in Richmond.

Another spot that's awesome for brunch is Heritage; they have a salmon bagel, which is probably my favorite thing in the entire world. When you think of a bagel, cream cheese, and lox, it doesn't necessarily jump out at you but when you bite into this one, you just understand the world. Everything makes sense.

At Heritage, the cocktails are so pretty, you might not want to drink them (but we have a feeling you’ll get over that pretty quickly.) Be sure to try the “Does This Spark Joy?. ”, made with Bombay Sapphire East Gin, Junmai sake, yuzu cordial, ostervit, dry curacao, and melon bitters.
