Reviews Summary

Diners rave about Stanley's authentic Italian hoagies and cheesesteaks, with many calling them some of the best they've ever had. The cozy, old-fashioned interior adds to the charm, and seasonal dishes like tomato salad and key lime pie are highlights. However, some patrons note that the restaurant can get very busy, leading to long waits and occasional parking challenges. Some also mention issues with over-salted fries or less attentive service when crowded.

"The Philly was really good! Enough that I was able to split it and eat the other half the next day. I upgraded the chips to fries and the fries were good but they were massively over salted. It gets busy so earlier the better and watch out for parking because it can get a little busy forcing you to park blocks away."

"Very nice place easy to find, might have to drive around a little bit to find parking but it's not too bad. Very cozy old fashioned interior AC. The staff is good kind of get what you want and leave you alone for the most part, could be a little bit more attentive but not bad. The food is crazy good I had the Ted Hanson smoked turkey one of the best sandwiches I've ever had only criticism, I wish the pickled onions were more scattered through the sandwich. Highly recommend this place."

"It’s a busy spot, expect a bit of a wait sometimes. Try to get a spot at the bar if you can it’s much better service than a booth. The cheesesteaks are out of this world. They have absolutely no business being so frickin tasty. The staff has always been super nice, but again, they are busy and it’s a small spot. Come in with a good attitude and they will always reciprocate. I love Stanley’s!"

The 100 best restaurants in Richmond in 2025

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: a group of fine dining veterans opens up a sandwich shop. No, I’m not talking about the TV show, “The Bear.” I’m talking about Stanley’s, the Philly-inspired hoagie and cheesesteak joint in The Fan. James Kohler, Mike Epps and their crew, whose backgrounds include Brenner Pass, Metzger Bar & Butchery and the late Saison, have transformed the old Robin Inn into a man-cavey, feels-like-it’s-been-there-forever spot, furnished with Eagles jerseys above the bar, celebrity photos on the walls, and a coin-operated pool table in the shabbily carpeted rec room.

The Restaurant List

No matter what part of town you call home, Stanley’s should be your neighborhood bar. It checks all the boxes: a fun, unpretentious vibe, killer cocktails (try the Surfer on Acid) and the most authentic cheesesteaks outside of Philly, sourcing their bread straight from the City of Brotherly Love. While the South Jersey-inspired hangout excels as a hoagie hot spot, don’t miss their wedge salad, a zippy, double head of crisp lettuce laden with pickled onions, jammy eggs, blue cheese and bacon, or a slice of tomato pie.
