What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Grandma's Kitchen offers a nostalgic diner experience with generally well-loved homestyle cooking and exceptionally friendly service. While many praise the comfort food and welcoming atmosphere, a few reviewers have noted inconsistencies in food quality and higher-than-menu prices.
"Excellent breakfast. Mary was our waitress and tho she was busy, she took good care of us. If you eat breakfast, it will be a few minutes until your meal comes out due to the breakfast rush."

"For a place called Grandma’s I was expecting something better.
We’ll start with the good. The staff was friendly and attentive and it place looked like a nice diner. It was clean and although the place was full, it wasn’t noisy or distracting.
But we didn’t go there to meet the staff or be in a room. We were there to eat. That’s where the problems start.
To be clear, nothing was disgusting or rancid. It was all edible food. It was just extremely subpar. To start, we got coffee. Honestly it was just coffee flavored water that was lying about being coffee.
The best part of the meal were the eggs. I ordered mine over medium. The best thing I can say about them is that they were indeed eggs that were cooked to just above over medium but not too above that it ruined them.
The thing that saved the bacon was that it tasted like bacon. It was thin and cooked right. Nothing to write home about.
The hashed browns tasted like they were previously frozen. Again, not disgusting, just not good.
The pancakes, something any diner should have no problem with, had problems. They were indeed big and fluffy but they weren’t thoroughly cooked. The flavor was there but after a couple of chews it felt like you were chewing on batter. It had the consistency of peanut butter. Not a fun experience.
The syrup was like hot syrup flavored water. You’d think it would help with the weird batter flavored pancakes, but it did not.
All in all this was not a good experience. To top it off, I paid over $50 for this atrocity. This really felt like I went to a friend’s grandma’s house in the 80s and she lived in the middle of a food desert and tried to feed us with as much fake, albeit edible, food she bought at a box store.
I didn’t give this place 1 star because they tried. Everything else about this place was okay. I wouldn’t tell people to avoid this place like the plague. If you want over priced food that isn’t that great then by all means swing on by. You will be fed. And you will pay a lot of money for it.
For a place called Grandma’s I’m expecting everything to be cooked in lard, to have real maple syrup, fresh butter, and portions of food that is supposed to remind you that your grandma is trying to overfeed you because oh honey, you need to eat more.
Honestly, next time I’ll just go to a Denny’s. You should do the same."

"We stopped by Grandma's Kitchen in Rochester and really enjoyed our meal. I ordered the Grandma's Omelette and my husband had the Club Sandwich. Both dishes came out fast, hot, and were very good. I also tried the chocolate graham cracker pie. It was delicious and mostly whipped cream with a graham cracker base. The flavor and texture worked well together. Great spot for a casual and satisfying meal."
