"I visited here on national hamburger day just recently.
I was the very first customer of the day so it was very nice to be able to look around and see the place for the very first time.
I parked in a 2 hour only parking lot that was just a small walk to the location.
The 2 staff members I came in contact with were very nice and very informative about the location and some food as I explained id been wanting to visit for a bit.
They have plenty of seating inside and outside.
The outside patio im told stays a bit breezy and with the wind that day I could tell it may be a bit chilly on some days with it being only 65-70 degrees.
All seating is nice and they have some tvs around.
I ordered the split open & melt along with fries and soda.
Just a double patty but they show you can add 3 or 4 Patty's if you like.

I know their burgers you can try as many Patty's on a burger that you want.
Up to 30 Patty's have been added to a burger and eaten by someone here.
Next time ill probably do a triple or the 4 patty sandwich because I wanted more it was so good.

I should of asked if they could of added an egg like I do at many places with burgers and frisco melts.

Sodas for the location are all excel brand that is locally bottles in breeze illinois. I enjoy the root beer.

The sandwich was great and their in house sause on it was very unique.

The sourdough bread that they use i believe is from a local place.
The Patty's were done and the cheese and melted so good together.

The sandwich held its shape well thru the whole meal.
The fries were good and seasoned nicely.
They have alot of beer on tap on the back wall.
The location is easy to get too and I think if you visit the science center or the zoo you need to check out this place for a meal to end day.
They are both really close with 1 entrance to the science center just a few streets up from the entrance for macs.

Sundays they have a special where they have glazed donuts as buns for their burgers.
The glazed donuts are from a local donut maker pharaohs donuts.

Macs is closed on Monday and Tuesday.
I really enjoyed my visit and being the first 1 there that day really made me take it all in better.

I enjoy taking the pics for others to see and ill be back on another Wednesday.
Some day ill try and get someone to go with me on a sunday to grab the glazed donuts bun burgers.
Im also told they sell out pretty quick.

My food came out in a nice timely manner as it gave me time to take some of these pics of video.

1 staff member was ready to take my trey as soon as I was done.

They have ketchup mustard and napkins over in a corner beside the bar.

The overall layout of seating and things to look at is great."

"Mac’s is a must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates top-tier food and a welcoming atmosphere. No matter where you’ve been or what burgers you’ve tried, this place raises the bar. The milkshakes are phenomenal, the rip fries are a brilliant and delicious twist, and the entire menu delivers. The Captain is a standout cheeseburger, but you really can’t go wrong with any option.

The staff is friendly and attentive, and the environment is perfect for any occasion—whether you’re stopping in for a casual meal, planning a corporate event, or just catching the game. With both indoor and outdoor seating and TVs everywhere you look, you’ll never miss a moment. Mac’s has truly created an experience worth coming back for."

"I definitely enjoyed the atmosphere at Mac's Local Eats. The location, parking, chill vibes inside. I really liked all of that. I got the Southside Mac sandwich and Red Hot Riplet fries.
Everything was served hot and fresh. Fries were covered in the Red Hot Riplet seasoning, and they were delicious. The beef was good quality."

With a background in IT, McKenzie didn’t see this life coming when he was working overnight and reading a local food forum. It was there that his own quest for high-quality meat sparked the group purchases that became Mac’s Local Buys. He’d visit a farm to get top-quality meats, load the product into a dozen coolers, and hustle to a meeting point for folks to collect their half hogs or quarter steers.

Before the pandemic, if you wanted to get your hands around one of Chris “Mac” McKenzie’s wildly popular smashed burgers, you had to get in line. “We already need a bigger boat,” says McKenzie, who moved from Tamm Avenue Bar to Bluewood Brewing to a dedicated space in the former Brew Hub Taproom location south of Forest Park. The reason for the lines?

Mac's (5656 Oakland Avenue, 314-393-7713) won't let you eat any old cow (or pig). Living up to its name, the restaurant works with local farms that humanely pasture-raise their animals. Then Mac's uses the whole cow, not just off-cuts, and dry ages its beef for 28 days.

I’m partial to Shake Shack in Central West End as a New Yorker, but the best burgers I’ve had were downtown at Mac’s Local Eats. Other favorite joints: Grace Meat and Three, West End Grill and Pub, Stack’d Burger Bar, and Layla’s for an added shawarma component.
