Reviews Summary

Pastaria receives high praise for its authentic, house-made pasta and wood-fired pizzas, with many highlighting the fresh ingredients and flavorful preparations. The vibrant atmosphere is noted as great for groups and celebrations, though some find the noise level high. While service is generally excellent, occasional issues with takeout quality and portion size for the price have been noted.

"So glad someone recommended this place- brunch was fabulous! The chef captured the right balance in preparing authentic Carbonara, and the Pastaria huevos rancheros, French toast egg sandwich special, granola, and Cacio e Pepe eggs were equally delightful. Excellent service, lovely environment, glad we made the trip!"

"Great service and atmosphere. They have plenty of larger tables to accommodate big groups. I enjoyed sitting at the back counter though where you can watch them make the pizzas and pastas.

The N'Dontcha Mocktail was delicious and had a refreshing citrus flavor. I'd definitely order this again.

The Burrata was a great starter and also pretty filling. It's a good option to share for the table.

The Strozzapretti was a generous portion with more pork than I expected, which was great. The sauce was not my favorite flavor though and it is more on the oily side in case that isn't your preference.

Also, FYI they have a $43 Prix Fixe 3-course menu option Sundays-Thursdays.

Street parking is limited, but there is also a parking garage right next door. They also validate, so bring your ticket with you."

The Best Spots for Pasta in St. Louis

From acclaimed chef Gerard Craft, Pastaria brings a concept to Clayton self described as “sorta close to Italy.” The motto translates directly into Craft and his steadfast staff’s commitment to freshly crafted pizza and pasta inspired directly by trips to Italy and prepared with the brand’s specialized twist. Each handcrafted noodle begins with organic semolina in its base and is formulated with the end product in mind. A dense strozzapreti, for instance, pairs perfectly with the house’s hearty Bolognese, while a delicate pistachio ravioli does well with a simple sauce of lemon and brown butter.

The best Italian restaurants in St. Louis

The unconventional pastas, pizzas, and desserts at this trendy Clayton restaurant are inspired by chef Gerard Craft’s travels in Italy and the friendships he’s made over food and wine. There are gems in every section of the menu: the shaved kale salad; the canestri cacio e pepe pasta; the four-cheese pizza; the butternut squash with herbs, balsamic vinegar, and hot honey; and the wedding cake. While walk-ins are welcome when space permits, your best bet for spontaneous dining is to join the online waitlist or pick up a to-go order at the deli.

A Food Lover's Guide to St. Louis County

Acclaimed chef Gerard Craft turns his attention to Italian cuisine at Pastaria(7734 Forsyth Boulevard, Clayton; 314-862-6603), a large, bustling restaurant in downtown Clayton. The cuisine is simple and outrageously good. Pasta, made in-house, stars in dishes both simple (the sublime chitarra aglio e olio) and sexy and sophisticated (the luscious pistachio ravioli).
