What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners rave about Sado's exceptional sushi, creative fusion dishes, and artful presentation. The knowledgeable and friendly staff enhance the experience, providing great recommendations. While the food is consistently praised, some found the hamachi kama to be over-garnished. The intimate atmosphere and unique offerings make it a highly recommended spot for a special occasion or exploring new culinary horizons.
"Had a great date night at Sado!! It’s the perfect intimate setting with melt in your mouth, amazing food. We opted for the crab rangoons, gyoza and brussel sprouts for appetizers. For ours mains, my husband and I split (pictured in order) the crying tiger roll (hamachi), shibo maki (salmon), akami maki (tuna) and Nikkei maki rolls (salmon). My favorite by far was the Nikkei maki, while my husband’s favorite was the crying tiger. Our server was super knowledgeable and explained the fusion & inspiration behind each dish. Would 100% recommend for anyone trying to expand their food horizons. Next time, we will come back for the omakase experience!! small note: auto gratuity of 20% is added for all party sizes"

Everything was so fresh and artful created. They described each item as it came out. They even made recommendations based on your likes and preferences."

"First time going to Sado last week for date night, and we were seriously impressed! The food was absolutely amazing! Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented.
Big shoutout to James and Elise for making the experience even better. They were super friendly, great to talk to, and really knew the menu inside and out. They even surprised us with a complimentary dish and drink, which was such a nice touch.
Definitely planning to come back again soon!"

The ultimate guide to The Hill neighborhood in St. Louis
Sado – which means “tea ceremony” in Japanese – is the newest restaurant to call The Hill home, and the first Asian restaurant in the neighborhood. With Sado, chef-owner Nick Bognar has created a welcoming environment that situates familiar classics like crab Rangoon, California roll and miso ginger soup against experimental dishes like black tea kanpachi and chawanmushi, a custard-y dish served hot that features crab, enoki mushroom and uni, or sea urchin. The bar program is filled with craft cocktails designed to complement the dishes, pulling inspiration from Asian culture, poetry and literature.

Nick Bognar first commanded attention at Nippon Tei, his mother Ann Bognar’s sushi restaurant. Sado, which opened last year on the Hill, showcases Bognar’s modern approach to sushi and also continues the tradition of Nippon Tei, which transferred some of its beloved dishes here after closing.
