WARNING: S C A R Y! Black Veil Shoppe of Drear & Wonder, is a MUST when visiting Salem, MA. The shoppe, co-owned by identical twin brothers Ryan and Matthew Murray, is “black & grey for the grim hearted”. This location also doubles as their private tattoo studio. We could have spent forever looking through the artist, clothing, designers and jewelry vendors the shoppe features. Our favorite part...

Reviews Summary

Blue Fez garners praise for its authentic Moroccan cuisine, with highlights like flavorful hummus, creative tagines, and a vibrant atmosphere. Reviewers often commend the friendly and attentive staff, and the restaurant's inviting decor. However, some diners found the food to be under-seasoned or bland, and noted that prices can be on the higher side for the perceived quality.

"Amazing flavors, great service and I cannot wait to go again.
We shared 3 appetizers and one entree. The falafel on a bed of hummus with harissa was the best I’ve ever had. The mussels (out of the shell) were in a spicy tomato sauce that was perfect and plentiful.
I do think the saffron shrimp could have been more flavorful.
The final item was the chicken couscous. While the chicken was a tad overcooked, the flavors and spices were outstanding.
I look forward to returning often."

"Love Blue Fez! My family organized a birthday party for me here with about 20 people. Fantastic Moroccan food: grape leaves, grilled chicken with delicious vegetarian couscous, fresh Mediterranean salad, bread and hummus... all delicious. Just as important, the staff were friendly and flexible--- we had some late arrivals, and they just accommodated everyone. The restaurant itself is lovely inside. A special thanks to our delightful server, Sydney, and to Tori who was so helpful in organizing it."

"Food was not good. Similar to other one star reviews. A friend who really liked this place insisted on bringing me here and it was empty on a Saturday night when every other place in town was super busy. Waitress came outside to coax us in while I was having a private conversation with my friend trying not to even go in. 2 apps and one main course was $100. The best bites of food was mid. Some of it was inedible. Adriatic is an example of a Mediterranean restaurant in Salem that does it right at a similar price but it’s gourmet and with excellent wait staff. Just read the other poor reviews and the owners horrible responses and you will know everything you need to know about this place. Even the pita bread was both burned and undercooked at the same time. This restaurant is a misfire on all cylinders. Normally I would give a place a second try before forming an opinion but as a New Yorker from Hell’s Kitchen with some of the toughest restaurant competition in the United States who has eaten at many fine Moroccan restaurants (the best ones are in Paris I would say) this is just bad. Sometimes a second visit is clearly not warranted. If you go, you can’t say you haven’t been warned."

The 52 Best Restaurants, Cafes, and More in Salem Right Now

Open since 2019, this Moroccan restaurant is relatively new to the Salem dining scene, but it quickly cemented its place as a local favorite for its flavorful dishes, including a variety of tagine-cooked options. (The Moroccan tagine, for example, offers diners braised lamb shank cooked with an aromatic mix of apricots, figs, prunes, and cinnamon.) Vegetarians will find plenty to love, including several veggie-packed tagine dishes or a falafel dish with spicy curry and shredded crepes. 118 Washington St., Salem, 978-744-2700, bluefezrestaurant.com.

What to eat in Salem Massachusetts

Blue Fez: This is a Moroccan restaurant and I think it’s really good. The staff here is very friendly and happy to see you. The portion of the paella was so big that I ate the leftovers for two more meals.
