What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Smoke Shack BBQ is lauded for its tender, flavorful brisket and sweet, fall-off-the-bone ribs. Diners also rave about unique sides like mac and cheese with brisket and fried okra. While some reviews mention occasional dryness or smaller rib portions, the overall consensus is a highly satisfying and authentic BBQ experience.
"We stopped by Smoke Shack BBQ and ordered the 3-meat platter with brisket, sausage, and pulled pork — and it did not disappoint. The brisket was tender with a perfect smoky bark, the sausage was juicy and packed with flavor, and the pulled pork had that delicious crispy edge from the smoker.
For sides, we went with green beans, black-eyed peas with ham, and their vinegar slaw — each one a solid complement to the meats. The green beans had a home-style comfort to them, the peas were hearty and seasoned just right, and the slaw brought a tangy crunch that helped balance out the richness of the plate.
Topped it all off with a soft roll and a cold Topo Chico. Cozy, casual atmosphere and a great meal overall. Would definitely come back for another round of brisket and sausage!"

"Guess when you order the two meat plate, you get small ribs. Got “three” small ribs, with a decent portion of brisket! Rib bones were 2 inches and one has a 1/2 bone. Tasted good but not enough! Should have taken picture of ribs before I ate them.
Saw other people with “normal” size pork ribs! Meh!!"
Jaime Perez
"We ordered the brisket grilled cheese and the slider with a side of Mac and cheese and it was delicious. We were visiting from Boston and experienced southern comfort food for the first time and absolutely loved it here. In addition the atmosphere was very cabin like which made it even better and servers were friendly."

8 Best San Antonio Restaurants
As someone who lives in the Barbeque Capital of the World, it’s always hard for me to recommend barbeque restaurants outside Kansas City. But my born-and-raised-in-KC cousin has lived in San Antonio for many years now and said that if I were going to be unfaithful to my local barbecue scene, Smoke Shack is the best place in San Antonio to cheat. Just across Broadway from the Witte Museum, it’s easy to identify by the Texas flag painted on the southern slope of its roof.

It all started as a shack on the back of a trailer, but it wasn't long before all that smokey goodness blew up into a restaurant in the heart of the Broadway corridor. Pork, chicken, sausage and ribs are all worth writing home about, but you'd be hard-pressed not to realize that brisket is the star of just about everything else on the menu except the sweet tea. As a standalone, patrons love the sliced brisket for the perfect amount of smoke and pull to the tender meat.

Owners Chris and Kate Conger started Smoke Shack in 2012 in a rickety trailer, growing it into a trio of related businesses on Broadway across from the Witte Museum. Smoke Shack serves a good brisket, but it excels with superb, smoky pulled pork with glistening ribbons of succulent meat and pork ribs so tender, you can pull the bones out with your fingers. For big eaters, there’s the famous Big Dog hoagie with a trio of meats and vinegar slaw.
