You'll find a lot more than pancakes at this historic eatery, which acts as a restaurant and a museum, preserving the history of C.H. Guenther & Son, a food company that's been around since 1851. The Guenther House also makes a mean plate of biscuits and sausage gravy for less than $10... 📹️ & ✍🏼: Polly Anna Rocha

Reviews Summary

The Guenther House is beloved for its charming historic ambiance and delicious, classic American breakfast fare, especially its signature biscuits and gravy and pastries. While the food is consistently praised, diners should be prepared for potentially long wait times, particularly during peak hours, and some reviews mention less-than-ideal service experiences at the host stand.

"No complaints on this joint. Very neat atmosphere. You’re sitting in a very old house which was really neat. The food was very good, you were not left wishing for more and price seemed on point. Waitress was nice and kept up with us well."

Justin M (FamGuy)

"Beautiful breakfast area! Historic in its nature on the grounds of museum! EVERYTHING was fresh!! Environmentally conscious from the glassware, napkins and management of the space! There is outdoor seating, but we prefer indoor! Highly recommend. The wait time for seating and food was a little long, but the food was well worth it!! Our server , Mychala, very good! Highly recommend!"

"Oh Guenther House you stole our hearts. The Guenther House is the perfect place to have breakfast and lunch whether it's outside or inside. This charming historical restaurant has all the aspects you're looking for. I do warn you should get there when it opens, 30 40min after that hour you're on a waiting list. The well crafted items on the menu are perfectly timed out so that you can enjoy a sweet pastry before your meal. Don't get this place confused with a fast paced restaurant like Chili's 🌶️ , take your time and enjoy this place you'll definitely be coming back. The waffles are light and fluffy, the fresh fruit and whipped cream makes this dish simple but elegant syrup isn't even needed. We wanted to try a little bit of everything and will say if you're expecting those biscuits you find at a fast food place you're in for a surprise these biscuits take you back to the pioneer times. The flavors of that apple pecan danish was on point, fair warning please make sure you let them know if you do not want it heated up, it comes to you warm/hot. You must try the flavored coffee it has that cinnamon nutmeg flavor it leaves you with this fall feeling, add a little bit of milk and it's perfect. I really hope you enjoy the Guenther House as we did. Before I forget Natasha was the best waitress, she absolutely makes your time there enjoyable. #she'llmakeyoulaugh"

Restaurants in San Antonio

This popular restaurant, where breakfast is served from open to close (8 am–2 pm), is housed in a stately 1860 home built by the founder of Pioneer Flour Mills. Fluffy Pioneer Brand biscuits, pancakes, and Southern sweet cream waffles, fresh fruit, and delectable pastries are half the reason to eat here. The other half is the 1920s art nouveau decor of stained, beveled, and etched glass along with plant motifs that create the illusion of a fine home's conservatory.

In the mid-1800s, the Pioneer Mills family helped found San Antonio’s active flour milling industry. The pancakes you’re eating at the historic Guenther House restaurant comes from flour milled on site from a historic mill dating to 1859. The 100+ year old property used limestone milled for the construction of the house from where the San Antonio Zoo now sits. Adjacent to the King William district-the oldest neighborhood in Texas, you can savor breakfast dishes like the 1852 Breakfast Platter, which comes with a Fluffy Pioneer Biscuit, a side of Pioneer’s Country Gravy with crumbled sausage, crisp Applewood smoked bacon, country sausage patty, Pioneer seasoned potatoes and two eggs.
