Reviews Summary
Atelier Crenn is celebrated for its spectacular, poetic culinary journey and warm, impeccable hospitality. Diners rave about the exceptionally fresh seafood and visually stunning dishes that evoke emotions. While the overall experience is unforgettable, some guests noted that a few dishes didn't quite reach the highest caliber for such a renowned establishment, and the wine list can be quite expensive.
"Nothing short of spectacular. I'm fortunate to have experienced dozens of Michelin star restaurants, including several 3* both in California and London. This was definitely in the Top 3 - maybe even my new overall favorite. The food was exceptional, the experience was warm and welcoming, the atmosphere perfect and the service impeccable. Every dish was presented and described with the appropriate level of detail. Every wine pairing worked brilliantly. Chef Crenn made a point to stop at every table to ensure we were enjoying our experience, and you could tell her entire team were were just as invested in our experience. Everyone and everything about Atelier Crenn was unforgettable.
We were already trying to find an excuse to come back before we left!"

The 10 Best Restaurants In Pacific Heights, San Francisco
Atelier Crenn is a unique culinary adventure that propels its guests on an epicurean journey of the senses. Chef Dominique Crenn calls it ‘poetic culinaria,’ where the names of dishes like ‘Under the midnight glow, I can taste the sweetness of the sea’ are meant to evoke an intuitive experience created through her imaginative combinations of assorted ingredients. This pairing of whimsy and culinary precision earned Crenn the distinction of becoming the first female chef in the U.S. to earn two Michelin stars, and diners can opt for two different prix fixe menus that change with the seasons.

Dinner at the spectacularly inventive flagship of San Francisco’s most celebrated chef of the moment, Dominique Crenn, is an exploration of both Crenn's journey as a chef and California's distinct geography and history. Each course is usually eye-opening (and downright delicious) and many dishes feature produce from Crenn's own Bleu Belle Farm. The presentations, textures, and tastes will stay with diners for years after the final chocolate bite from pastry wizard Juan Contreras.

Best French Restaurants in San Francisco
At the hands of accomplished Chef Dominique Crenn, guests have rightly come to expect a thrilling meal inside her singular atelier. Original is the name of this culinary game—one that is as thoughtful in serving brioche with cultured butter as it is with caviar crowned by turbot gelée and gold leaf. Spiny lobster with dots of apple butter and a warm ginger-whey foam is a wondrous creation brimming with flavor and depth.

The best fine dining restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area
French native Dominique Crenn’s flagship restaurant embraces a joyful narrative culinary style: Diners are given poems with their meals, with each line corresponding to dishes from the 14-course pescatarian tasting menu ($410). Ingredients from the restaurant’s Sonoma County farm are prepared with precision in dishes like a delicate tart with koji rice cream and sturgeon caviar; spot prawn essence condensed into a shockingly muscular shot of broth; and clever desserts by pastry chef Juan Contreras. The restaurant is an extension of Crenn’s social work as well: It’s certified plastic-free and supports food insecurity work in the San Francisco community.
The 14 Best Michelin-Starred Restaurants That Have Reopened In San Francisco
The past two years have seen Chef Dominique Crenn declare that her Michelin three-star restaurant would be entirely meatless, then open a vegan delivery chain with a first location in LA, and then in August she announced she planned to begin serving cell-based meat — and to become the first U.S. chef to serve lab-grown chicken, from UPSIDE Foods. Atelier Crenn remains the priciest dinner in town at $395 per person, pre-paid, with add-ons (and it also now boasts a very cinematic website landing page). But for special occasions for foodinistas, it's a lyrical and inventive must-try.
Top 19 Fine Dining in San Francisco[2024]
gave the restaurant and excellent rating because the food was so overwhelmingly well prepared, spectacularly delicious, flawless I presentation and proportion, however I was less impressed with the service which felt theatrical during parts of the meal, a distraction to the food, too much talk around Chef Crenn’s background while growing up in Normandy, and dizzying levels of waitstaff circulation in the dining room. That said, if you are a foodie, it is definitely worth a try, if only once. Been there, loved the food, will unlikely repeat a visit for reasons noted above.
40 Absolute Best Restaurants In San Francisco, Ranked
One simply must mention Atelier Crenn when compiling a list of the best restaurants in San Francisco — after all, it's not like any old establishment can earn itself three Michelin stars if it isn't a truly exceptional eatery. Atelier Crenn has everything you could want from an upscale menu, and every part of dining there is an experiment in luxury. From the open atmosphere and the warm servers to the beverages, the melt-in-your-mouth bites of food in between sips, and the (hopefully) good company kept throughout, Atelier Crenn is worth a trip to California.
The Best Restaurant Websites in San Francisco
Atelier Crenn's website is just like its menu and the world-famous chef that lends it her name: one of a kind. The homepage contains a movie studio-quality, beauty commercial-aesthetic custom video, which at once says very little and very much about the brand. This approach wouldn't work for every restaurant, but when you're a three-Michelin-starred restaurant known for pushing boundaries and putting artistry at the forefront, a website this high-concept is picture perfect.
