Reviews Summary
Gilbert's El Indio Restaurant is praised for its long-standing family-owned charm, generous portions, and welcoming atmosphere, often described as a Santa Monica landmark. While many appreciate the traditional Mexican fare and affordability, some reviews note a lack of bold, authentic flavors, suggesting a more Americanized spin on classic dishes. The service is consistently highlighted as a positive aspect, with a friendly and attentive team.
"Gilbert's Restaurant has a great atmosphere. The service is professional, the teamwork is family, and they help each other out with everyone's table. The complimentary chips are great, but the carrots are a favorite of mine. The food is tasty and my favorite among Mexican food. The price is good too. I don't drink alcohol, so I can't recommend. I highly recommend trying the food, you'll come back again."

"Came here with a party of 7 and we were seated within 10 minutes! We ordered the margarita pitcher and the the glasses still came with salt and a lime! The food was amazing and the servers constanly kept our glasses and chips and salsa full. When I got my to-go box they gave me a salsa to go as well! Definitely a place I will be returning."

"Family-owned small business- been running this restaurant since May 20th, 1974. They greet you with warmth and hospitality. The interior of the restaurant is filled with fascinating memorabilia to admire while you wait for your food. The food itself is delicious, and you will leave the restaurant full, all at an affordable price. Don't miss out!!!"
