While on a day trip north of San Francisco, we took a detour into Sebastopol for lunch. El Coronel was right there, and it looked like a good option because we had our little puppy with us. It was a beautiful afternoon, and they had outdoor seating available.
El Coronel Mexican Restaurant was founded by Armando Coronel in 2002 and has been part of Sebastopol's culinary scene since then. It has been a family-run operation for over two decades and serves tasty Mexican cuisine. El Coronel is known for its sizzling fajitas, delicious combinations, flavorful tacos, and burritos. They have a beautiful patio with a complete outdoor bar. The interior is beautifully designed and looks comfortable for individuals and both small and large groups.
We started with an order of Guacamole, their House Margarita, and Hibiscus Tea. The Guacamole was freshly made, and there was plenty of it! We enjoyed the combination of fresh guacamole and chips. The drinks were good, too.
We decided to share a Parrillada (which means grilled in English) for the main dish. There was plenty of food. The meats (beef, pork, and chicken) were all fresh, well-cooked, and flavorful. It came with a plate of rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, and fresh tortillas.
I could not leave without trying their flan and was very happy I didn't! It was one of the better flans I have had in a while.
The staff was very attentive and friendly. A gentleman, who may have been the owner or manager, stopped by our table and asked how we were doing. He was very friendly and welcoming.
We enjoyed our experience, and as we left, I made a mental note to come back and try their Molcajete! It looked very good!"

"As a traveler from Santa Barbara, I have enjoyed some very good Mexican food. So, I was looking for some very authentic Mexican food, similar to my Latino roots. Well, I found it here at El Coronel😊❤️ I felt like I was taken back in time to my grandparents house and the scent of Mexican food. The service was excellent, again the food was delicious and the restaurant itself is so bright and decorated with true Latino influence. I highly recommend stopping here if you're in Sebastopol ❤️👍"

Bright and cheery, this restaurant seems like fun from the start. Wait staff is prompt and attentive. Then the menu arrives, and you look down and realize that this is the most expensive molcajete in the North Bay at around $30!
