What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Speaks Clam Bar is lauded for its exceptional, house-made pasta and fresh seafood with a unique Italian-New England fusion. Diners praise the craft cocktails and lively atmosphere. While many highlight the quality and generous portions, some reviews mention the food being overly salty or the lobster roll not meeting expectations, and a few note that prices are on the higher side for the area.
"This place exceeded expectations. Excellent food, drinks and service. We started with raw clams and spicy margaritas and then had two pasta dishes for entrees. My partner is gluten free and they offer gluten free pasta which was great! Everything tasted and was presented beautifully. Serving sizes were very generous - I took at least half my entree home! Our server was friendly, professional and quick. We will be back!"

"Amazing food, the sauce is awesome and flavorful. The pasta is amazing. The oysters are also fresh and are great. Eggplant paramesan also has great flavor and is nice to see a restaurant do. The servers are friendly and the service is quick. Lots of windows so natural light is main light source. Overall this turned from a place we were trying out for just oysters, into a must go restaurant every time we’re in the area."

"Came here to visit some an old college friend and her boyfriend. It was the halfway point between Orlando and Naples and had good reviews for seafood so we met there. Great location, and modern interior. Very open and lots of light . The service was very good.
The food was excellent, and a particularly stellar version of French fries. The chowder was a little thin but tasty with a good amount of clam. The fish basket (cod in this case) was very good quality fish and was cooked well.b the lobster roll was a 7/10 for a lobster roll outside of New England. The roll was not as fresh as I would have liked and it could have used more meat, but overall it was good. The salad was just OK but the seafood in it was really good. Overall this was a good choice and I would come back when in Sarasota.
Keep in mind the restrooms are upstairs, they were clean but a bit hidden."

New York-style Jewish delis restaurants opening in downtown Sarasota
Chef Natalia Levey and her Hi Hospitality Group, which operate the Speaks Clam Bars on St. Armands Circle and in Lakewood Ranch, as well as the Kojo restaurant in downtown Sarasota, are set to soon open Bar Hana, which will occupy the space neighboring Kojo on Palm Avenue and offer "really elevated bar food," Levey told me in November. “We want to dispel the myth of what bar food should be like.” Later this year, Levey and her team plan to debut Palm Avenue Deli, which will be next door to Bar Hana and two doors down from Kojo. It will feature a retro, 1950s design and classic comfort foods such as pastrami sandwiches, matzo ball soup and latkes (potato pancakes).
The Best Italian Restaurants in Sarasota
Boulevard of Presidents, St. Armands Circle, Sarasota, (941) 232-7633; speaksclambar.com. Conceived as an homage to the Italian American clam bars that are popular on Long Island and throughout the Northeast, Speaks’ two locations are fun, boisterous destinations where you can find a mean cocktail and tons of fresh shellfish. Start your meal with raw or steamed clams and oysters and then double down on the seafood fest with a straightforward plate of linguine with clams, or lasagna layered with shrimp and lobster.
