A well-loved multi-award winning neighbourhood joint, Green Truck Pub is known for its laid-back friendly atmosphere, mouth-watering food, and great selection of beer. Opened in 2010 by Josh Yates and his wife, Whitney, the folks at this venue firmly believe in the sustainable movement; and as such, they source their ingredients and décor locally and recycle anything they can. With many delicious options for meat lovers and vegetarians alike, diners can savour items such as the pimento cheese plate, which is house-made, served with pickles and crostini; and the trailer park burger, made with an all-natural grass-fed beef patty or house-made veggie patty topped with pimento cheese, bacon, tomato and onion.

4.7 ★Last but certainly not least, we had to make mention of Green Truck Pub on Habersham St. Regularly mentioned here on The Savannah Insider, Green Truck Pub is the place where dietary restrictions come out to rejoice loudly. Whether it be the Vegan chili “non-carne” that calls you, or the ability to switch out any burger patty for the meat substitute variety, everyone can be as picky as they’d like at Green Truck Pub. Gluten free, vegetarian and not lacking in any bit of flavor, Green Truck is one of Savannah’s great treasures and all of the locals would gladly agree with that statement.

I’ve already expressed my love of The Sentient Bean, and there are numerous other places that are just as amazing but in different ways, like Zunzi’s, Green Truck Pub, Tequila Town, Moon River Brewing Company, Bayou Café, and Clary’s… just to name a few. Randy and I have been keeping a list of places we want to try, and Friday night he wanted to try something new. I really wasn’t in the mood to go out, he picked me up from work, I was still in my scrubs, tired and ready to go home, but we headed downtown instead, and I’m really glad we did.

Sunday, August 26: Green Truck Pub and Service Brewing will get things started with “Sausage Fest.” Green Truck will have a special, one day only, all sausage menu. According to Green Truck the menu isn’t set yet but there will be two types of Hunter Cattle Pastured Pork Sausages and a housemade Vegan “Sausage” available, with different combinations of scratch-made toppings. They will also be pulling out some special new sausage-friendly sides; German Potato Salad & homemade Kraut for example and a brand-new housemade dessert.

The Drive Thru Art Box was started by artist and activist Matt Hebemehl over a decade ago as an alternative venue to showcase local creatives. It occupies what was once a literal drive through restaurant’s menu box, and overlooks the parking lot of what is now Green Truck Neighborhood Pub. The exterior windows of the box divide the space into three nearly equal panels, and artists who have shown in the space before have alternatively incorporated and ignored these enforced design elements.

The Green-Meldrim House, built in 1853 in the Gothic Revival style, served as the military headquarters for General W. T. Sherman after the March to the Sea during the Civil War. This National Historic Landmark tells the tales of the individuals who inhabited, labored, constructed, and shaped history within its walls. Noteworthy figures include the Green and Meldrim families, General William T. Sherman and the Union Army, and Susie King Taylor – an author, nurse, and educator.

For hearty neighborhood grub, check out this spot from the husband and wife duo of Whitney and Josh Yates. Both the all grass-fed, all-natural beef, and the veggie patties have been voted best in the city, so try either with "The Lone Star," with housemade chipotle BBQ sauce and jalapeños. Sandwiches range from the classic grilled cheese to a veggie Reuben and California-style BLT with bacon, avocado, and house Ranch dressing.

The problem with dining out in Savannah is that there are just too many restaurants to try—ones we wanted to make it to this visit but didn’t get to include Atlantic, Green Truck Pub and Circa 1875—but alas, we had to be choosy with just three dinners on the docket. Fellow foodies friends had all told us to make one a priority, so we did just that: Cotton & Rye.

This is a neighborhood pub that is a popular place for locals to meet up and enjoy a good meal. This is a lovely restaurant to come for a hearty lunch. The Spiced Georgia nuts are a delicious way to start your meal – pecans and walnuts flavored with rosemary – or you could try the pimento cheese plate with bread and pickles.

Beer is also big here, where the ever-changing selections might include Highland Brewing Company’s Black Mocha Stout, brewed with cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa nibs and chipotle. Sipping one alongside a pimento cheese sandwich or burger laden with goat cheese and balsamic caramelized onions makes for a perfect afternoon.

Green Truck Neighborhood Pub was founded for one reason — to be the best casual restaurant in Savannah. Green Truck opened in October of 2010, and yes there really is a Green Truck. Owner Josh Yates owns a 1965 Chevy Stepside that inspired the restaurant’s name and logo. Although the owner was not on the premises when we visited, Aaron, the young kitchen manager, was happy to talk about his time there.

Our last stop as we leave Savannah, the Green Truck Neighborhood Pub was highly rated for having “the best veggie burger”. They also have award winning regular burgers, a fact Steve found enticing. We were told there was a 20-25 minute wait for a table, however some bar seats opened up as we waited.

The Green Truck is a great pick for a group with a dietary restriction or two. They make quite a few original burgers that range from dressed-up classics to Greek-inspired. There are tons of options for vegan and vegetarians, and they are even gluten-free friendly with alternative buns.

The Green Truck Pub provides a laid-back atmosphere and a menu stocked with locally sourced finds, like grass-fed, all-natural, hormone-free burgers. BONUS: They get their beef from Hunter Cattle Company right up the road in Brooklet, GA, (which also offers an annual Peanut Festival).

Definitely, be sure to visit Green Truck Pub in Starland District. This restaurant, in particular, was started on a superficial basis where city-dwellers should have a casual location to eat and drink. Each burger on the menu can convert into veggie burgers with gluten-free buns.

Voted “Best Wait Staff” in Savannah, the Green Truck Pub is one of those places you’ve gotta bring out-of-towners to when they visit. They always impress, with their Farm to Table burgers, sandwiches, soups, and salads. Their Veggie Burger is super tasty, too.

They make them in-house as well as their ketchup and vegan chili. Their fries are EPIC, but I hate their ketchup and I’m the biggest ketchup lover on this planet. There is a debate in Savannah on whether the ketchup is good or not – it’s up to you to decide!

If you choose not to splurge on a pastry, how about a burger?. Many locals will argue the burgers at Green Truck Pub are the best in town. While I can’t vouch for the meat burgers, I can vouch for the veggie burger.

I think it might have been a “We’re hungry, what’s close that has a vegetarian option…or two” decision. The restaurant was very…typical. It wasn’t necessarily memorable, and I can’t say I’d be bothered to go back.

They handmake even the simplest of items like ketchup, pimento cheese, and salad dressing. The burgers and fries are perfect, and the vegan chili is the side dish I never knew I needed.

Southern Living recommends the following eateries and drinking establishments: the Grey, AlleyCat Lounge, Foxy Loxy Cafe, Wyld Dock Bar, Back in the Day Bakery and Green Truck Pub.

Green Truck is a neighborhood place that serves HUGE burgers and great fries. They also make their own ketchup which is awesome!. But be prepared to wait, it’s very popular.

There is a burger joint called the Green Truck at Habersham and 40th that is killer for veg/meat burgers both and I'm pretty sure it's all organic (plus lots of good beer).
