River House Seafood is celebrated for its exceptional seafood and charming historic ambiance, housed in a beautifully restored 18th-century cotton warehouse. Diners frequently praise the attentive service, flavorful dishes like fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits, and the unique cocktails and desserts. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, occasional feedback suggests some dishes might not consistently meet expectations, though the overall dining experience remains highly recommended.
"There are many (dozens) of dinner options when looking for seafood in Savannah. So, what drew me this place over the others (walked past 4 other restaurants on our way here) was a couple of blackened items on the menu and the 2025 Open Table Diners' Choice graphic on their website). There was not a reservation available so gladly sat at the bar. Live music (Susannah Kennedy singing with her guitar = very good) playing in vicinity of the bar when we sat down.
Greeted by bartender (Tara) who acknowledged me and said she would be right with me. She was working the bar like a boss and did not miss a beat. She took drink and fried green tomatoes order. While asking about items on the menu, she said the low country Boil special ($40) was best for 2. We opted for that with a salad. Tara returned shortly and said our original choice salad (Regency Room salad) and the Wedge salad were out of stock in the kitchen. We opted for the Harvest Salad without onions. You can see in the photo that did not translate well. We picked them off and went about our business. The Harvest Salad with fried green tomatoes (appetizer) were DELICIOUS.
We were then onto our seafood boil special which was absolutely amazing. The timing of the meal delivery and drinks were perfect. Tara was a phenomenal bartender and server. Our experience was 10/10. We would highly recommend without hesitation.
Update: we stopped back in the next day to try peach margaritas to go. Absolutely phenomenal. The bartender said they make then in house. Do not sleep on this drink!"

"Stopped in for lunch. Had a very attentive and friendly server, Lisa L. Seated and waited on promptly. Food was good. We had the fried green tomatoes, my least favorite of our orders. Had the cornbread oysters, which I think would have been spot on with about half the cornbread to help highlight the oyster flavor. The grouper Oscar was excellent. Broiled grouper fillet sitting on mash potatoes and topped with asparagus. Definitely recommend the grouper Oscar. Restrooms and overall all dining area very clean."

"The fact that there is only a 4.2 rating on this restaurant is preposterous. The atmostphere is relaxed, upscale, and full of character. The service is wonderful, with great suggestions from the waitstaff. Came here with my significant other on an overnight stay and we left absolutely stuffed. The portion sizes are fantastic and the pricing is fair based on that. Presentation was great. We had the cornbread oysters, the catch of the day and the blackened flounder. We also tried the Georgia peach margarita, the Haint Blue mojito, and a local pilsner. I highly recommend this as a must try in Savannah."
