This is a very particular accolade for a very particular dish – I’ve never seen Hummus Pizza as a menu option before but I will now always wish for it, provided it’s as tasty as the one served in the sprawling, leafy courtyard at THE SECRET GARDEN CAFE. Toppings include feta cheese, caramelized onions and black mission figs. Be still my beating heart. The cakes have that lovely squishy, oozing-with-cream, home-made look to them.

Located in Tlaquepaque Village, the aesthetic is giving “lush green garden.” I love coming here for brunch and sitting amongst the flowers and trees, and then roaming around Tlaquepaque afterwards. SGC serves lunch and dinner too, but I’m a slave to their pancakes. Their quiche is apparently legendary, but I haven’t made it that far.

We headed to Chocolatree, a healthy chocolate store (what? They make those?) that also has an outdoor cafe, complete with wind chimes and random silks hanging from a tree so that you can do aerial yoga, if the desire so strikes you.

The staff will bring your dog a fresh bowl of water when you’re seated at the restaurant’s outdoor patio. Many praise the restaurant—which focuses on made-from-scratch healthy cuisine like hummus pizza—for its friendly service.
