What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
T-Johnny's On The River offers a mixed bag of reviews, with many praising the authentic Cajun flavors, especially the boiled shrimp and boudin balls, and the pleasant riverside atmosphere. However, some diners have noted inconsistencies in food quality, with issues like overcooked seafood and bland sauces, alongside concerns about value for money. The service is frequently highlighted as friendly and attentive.
"Started off with the Cajun egg rolls, we were all hungry so i didn’t even get a picture of those. Service was great, friendly prompt staff. We sat inside, they had the outside patio enclosed but mentioned having issues with their heater. The chicken pasta my spouse got, chicken was a little burnt and that turned her off to the chicken but we don’t tend complain to the kitchen. Boiled shrimp was really good, definitely had a kick to it. The corn was easily the spiciest (as expected) and i usually go for spicy foods but it had me sweating haha. We had a few beers and a kids grilled cheese so the bill was a little high but we don’t eat out much. So many things on the menu sounded amazing, cool place and definitely will be back!"

"I was excited to be here as they have opened up a location back home in Oklahoma. I ordered the Grilled Red Fish with crawfish cream sauce. I was let down. The fish was way overcooked. Had the texture of a dry pork chop. I thought they actually tried to pass a pork chop as red fish. The waitress was amazing and she said she had another customer say the same thing. The crawfish cream sauce was floury, and bland. Tobasco saved it. They did discount the meal for me. I'll try again in a couple days. Overall it wasn't horrible but needs work. The waitress was amazing!!"

"Just had a cup of chicken & sausage gumbo-could’ve been tastier. It was bland and too “spicy hot”. Had an order of 2 crab cakes which were ok, but the sauce was also spicy hot. I was expecting to bite into pieces of lump crab, but no such luck. The best of what I tried was the fried alligator chunks/bites. It reminded me of eating calamari cooked right, chewy not gummy. They were nice size pieces and the sauce was nice too. I give the gator bites a 5/5. In general, for the prices they charge the restaurant could be nicer. Overall it was ok."
