Reviews Summary

Cafe La Haye is lauded for its exceptional, creative American cuisine featuring fresh, local ingredients and impeccable service. Diners rave about the intimate, romantic atmosphere and highly recommend signature dishes and delectable desserts. While portions can be on the smaller side and the menu is somewhat limited, the overall experience is considered outstanding and well worth the price for special occasions.

"My husband I were visiting Napa and Sonoma for our birthdays. Through a bit of research, I found Cafe La Haye. I'm so glad we had the opportunity to dine here. I had the risotto and added several shrimp. My husband had the bolognese. Both were outstanding. A Happy Birthday butterscotch pudding and a apple fruit crisp capped the evening. The service matched the food and the whole experience, really, it was great!"

Jodi Roberts

"Absolutely amazing! The food was incredible — fresh ingredients that made every dish stand out. Everything perfect cooked. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience."

Malena McReynolds

"Great staff, very detailed oriented and attentive yet not pushy. Always ready to help us.

Location is great, in downtown Sonoma which was a plus for us since we are able to walk back to our hotel.

Food I had mix feelings about it. It was tasty but it did not hit the wow factor for us. Excellent taste but something was missing. Portions were on the smaller size. Appetizers definitely not shareable."

The menu is all about simple yet beautiful ingredients prepared just right, like filet mignon with local Point Reyes blue cheese or Duroc heritage pork chop with mustard seed vinaigrette, mushrooms, and potatoes. Their daily specials always use whatever is in season, with a French twist on local ingredients.

50 Best Restaurants in Sonoma County 2018

Small But Mighty: Café la Haye, Sonoma: With just 30 seats and a tiny bar, this iconic Sonoma Plaza bistro also operates out of a closet-size kitchen. But oh, what wonders emerge under owner Saul Gropman’s watch. Chef Jeffrey Lloyd previously worked at Michael Mina, and his deft touch results in divine Cal-Med bites like filet mignon dolloped in roasted shallot-balsamic jus and anchovy butter, or crusted pork chop finished in mustard cream and chorizo butter alongside ricotta dumplings.

Sunny and artsy with an open kitchen, thrown-open windows and Mexican tile floors, Cafe LaHaye has staying power compared to many of the comers-and-goers on the touristy Sonoma square. The cooking is light and eclectic with Mediterranean overtones and California-fresh twists. Start with the exceptional, delicately house-smoked salmon placed on a savory crispy pancake made of shredded spring onions, carrots bits and perfectly correct seasonings and served with a dollop of creme fraiche.
