Irvings Bagels

Opening last year, Maura McConnell, manager of operations for the Irving’s family of businesses, noted that the menu needed some other options, leading to the introduction of the now highly popular bella melt and veggie burger. The former includes a perfectly grilled portabella mushroom topped with melted mozzarella cheese and a mouth-watering roasted rosemary garlic aioli. The veggie burger, which frankly is tasty enough to eat on its own — no buns or toppings needed — is made from a special blend of brown rice, black beans and walnuts, topped with a cucumber yogurt sauce, tomato and lettuce.

With the addition of a new online ordering system, Irving’s continues to serve smoothies made from fresh, whole fruit. Manager Jackie Ryan says the “Joe Papaya” — a healthy blend of pineapple, strawberry, mango and coconut — is the store’s most common order. In addition to the restaurant’s curbside and in-store pickup options and outdoor seating area, Irving’s packages every order to go, encouraging customers to take their meals with them rather than dining indoors.

For the vegetarians, the Very Veggie wrap, Peanut Butter Banana Crunch wrap, grilled cheese, and the grilled portobello sandwich are a few amazing options. A post shared by Irving's (@irvingspsu). I’ll admit, Irving’s might be better for those sticking to a vegetarian diet — options for vegan folks include only some bagels (a shocking discovery for myself, actually), oatmeal with plant-based milk, the spicy Thai noodle salad, and most smoothies.

Running in between class, this bagel shop on College Avenue is a quick spot to stop in at for smoothies, breakfast, sandwiches and salads. The cafe offers items like “really good coffee,” orange creamsicle shakes, the “very veggie” breakfast wrap, spicy thai noodle salad and of course, bagels. Strolling out of bed hungover isn’t the best feeling on Sundays, so a fresh toasted bagel along with a cold juice or hot coffee works as the perfect answer. Located on East College Avenue with a welcoming entrance, it’ll be hard to walk past when you feel in need of a bite to eat early in the day.

Irving’s is known as a bagel shop that has been serving the Penn State community for years. Irving’s also serves various lunch options, baked goods, and most importantly, coffee. This means from the second they open till when they close, you will find yourself full, happy, and focused at Irving’s.

Irving’s is one of the top two bagel establishments known State College. I usually just get the whole bagels (not cut and with no toppings) and have never had an issue!. None of their bagels continue nuts themselves, and they are delicious!
