This upscale tapas shop is stashed inside Ybor City’s latest hotel opening, Hotel Haya. Set on the main stretch of East Seventh Avenue alongside bustling dive bars and clubs, the restaurant and cocktail bar melds Latin American, Mediterranean, and Gulf Coast flavors into a concise menu of seafood-centric dishes helmed by executive chef Nate Hardin. Whether you’re grabbing a drink and a bite at the wraparound bar or luxuriating over a meal in the dining room, this swanky restaurant is rich with an atmosphere that’s upscale and cozy all at once. Rodriguez’s Nuevo Latino-menu features wood-grilled coastal cuisine, an imaginative selection of ceviches, and a range of rum-soaked cocktails.

Ybor City’s finest address is Hotel Haya (from $175 per night), which pays homage to pre-revolution Cuba at fine dining restaurant Flor Fina and the gorgeous little coffee and breakfast bar, Cafe Quiquiriqui, which serves some of the city’s tastiest Cuban sandwiches and strongest cortaditos.

The Hotel Haya, designed by Alfonso Architects Incorporated, is now open and is one of the most stunning gems in the entire Tampa Bay region. The restaurant features a live-fire grill and an ever-evolving rotation of ceviches. Flor Fina is crowned by the warming glow of the bar’s golden-hued ceiling, ample spaces to lounge, and an expansive array of cocktails crafted to inspire long, rum-soaked conversations.

Described as ‘Cuban-inspired’, so perhaps not truly authentic to some purists, nevertheless Cafe Quiqiriqui and Flor Fina both serve an El Cubano sandwich, and the new (opened in 2020) Hotel Haya is a cool, modern place to hang out. It was too early for us to belly up to the bar or order lunch, so we bought a water and whiled away some time in the lounge spaces overlooking the bar and lovely Flor Fina.

Flor Fina: I don’t expect much from a hotel restaurant, but Flor Fina at Hotel Haya in Ybor City impresses me on every visit. The menu has several handheld options and delicious entrees including a Vegetarian Paella, Leche de Tigre bowl, and Bilingual Burger. You’ll pay more because you are dining at a hotel, but it still is not as expensive as some other places in town.

Located within the Hotel Haya, Flor Fina is a Nuevo Latino-style restaurant that harkens back to an old Havana feel. Noted for its various ceviche options, as well as meat cooked on a live-fire grill, Flor Fina also offers a unique delicacy — its porchetta suckling pig. This three-course feast is stuffed with pistachios, rosemary, salsa verde and various veggies.
