Led by Tampa natives Nate Siegel and Merrin Jenkins, this relatively recent addition to Hyde Park Village gets its name from “Willie” Lowry, Jenkins’ great-great grandmother and a 19th century Tampa pioneer. After swinging open its doors in March 2021, the farm-to-table, French-inflected eatery garnered quick popularity thanks to its intimate ambiance, abundant indoor greenery, and rattan decor. From the kitchen, chef Gabriel Lopez offers a range of comforts like slow-roasted Rotisserie Chicken served with salsa verde and a standout chimichurri-topped Steak Frites.

The North Hyde Park restaurant and its sister cafe opened in March, boasting a welcoming ambiance and friendly neighborhood vibe. Designed with some of New York City’s all-day cafes and restaurants in mind, Willa’s provides a slightly more traditional dining experience while the adjoining cafe does double duty as a coffee shop serving King State coffee and breakfast bites. Later in the evening, the cafe morphs into a casual cocktail lounge with a focus on amaro and vermouth.

This is an establishment that was on my list to go before I realized we were moving and was able to try it out when back in town with some of my friends!. They do not have anything marked gluten-free on their menu, so had a backup plan incase I decided that I was not comfortable eating there. We sat at the bar and the waitress that took care of us was knowledgable of celiac & took good care of me.
