Dinner: Most of your dining options are concentrated in Old Town, and Small Barn is a highlight among them. Owners Dan and Cathy Gibson make their own wines under the Small Barn label, and they also have some of the best cocktails in town.

Situated in a historic building in downtown Temecula, Small Barn is a modern bistro with a deep connection to the region’s vineyards. As vintners themselves, the owners bring a unique understanding of flavor pairing, both on the plate and in the glass. Stop by to savor dishes like pan-roasted chicken with foraged mushrooms, or the globally-inspired hamachi crudo and harissa-rubbed hanger steak, all crafted with locally-sourced ingredients that reflect the essence of Temecula.

At the corner of Old Town Front Street and Fifth Street, Small Barn immediately makes an impression with oversized barn doors leading into an al fresco dining room strung with twinkling lights. A combination of sofas, lounge chairs, and dining tables are artfully placed around the yard, resulting in a casually elegant atmosphere. On a given night, you might find small groups celebrating an engagement or couples relaxing after a day at the wineries.

Small Barn is one of the best Old Town Temecula restaurants with plenty of outdoor seating. On the corner of 5th and Front Street, the owners of this modern bistro did indeed renovate a historic building that was once a small barn on the homestead of one of Temecula’s founders. Today, this beautiful building houses one of the most inviting restaurants Temecula Old Town has on offer.

Small Barn is my personal favorite restaurant, and when family or friends are in town, this is definitely the place I recommend. If you love people-watching and plush comfy outdoor seating while savoring truly unique dishes, then this is the place for you. One of the things I love most about this restaurant is I can easily find a reservation with available time slots on OpenTable.

A place where beautiful design meets delicious food, Small Barn is definitely the best new restaurant in Temecula. The menu is led by Top Chef alum Angelo Sosa, and my friend and I literally drooled over every dish that came out to our table. Don’t miss the ahi tuna and spiced pumpkin flan for dessert–it will all melt in your mouth.

Small Barn restaurant is a new and warmly welcomed addition to the culinary scene of Old Town Temecula, opening during the pandemic in 2020. As soon as you step foot into this rustic yet charming restaurant, you feel right at home. The outside dining area has a great view for people watching on the main road, Old Town Front Street.

While you might be tempted to only stay in wine country, Small Barn has solidified Old Town Temecula as a must-visit destination for incredible cuisine. Small Barn opened in 2020, and easily became the top restaurant in the area. Since then, we always make a trip to Old Town Temecula part of our itinerary.
