Reviews Summary
Seis Kitchen is celebrated for its fresh, delicious, and generously portioned traditional Mexican fare, with many praising the authentic regional flavors and homemade tortillas. While the food is a major draw, some diners have experienced long wait times and occasional service issues. The vibrant atmosphere and unique drink options, like the horchata, also contribute to its popularity.
"Delicious!
I haven't been here in several years. The area has been overtaken by hipsters, so I was honestly a little worried that the authenticity or serving sizes or prices may have been affected. It was very busy, but the line moved quickly. The food was fresh and delicious, and serving sizes were generous. We had a mix of vegetarians and omnivores in our group, and everyone loved their meal."
Nicole Thomas
"By the time we placed our order to the time we were served there was maybe a 5 to 7 minute wait. The food was amazing. Big portions. We had the crispy fish tacos and a large plate of nachos. (Don't underestimate the nachos)"
Juan Garcia
"There is nothing better than sitting outside and enjoying excellent Mexican food.
Tree-lined patio with many outside tables.
I totally enjoyed fish tacos with Garden Salad.
It's a popular place, so go early. By the way, they have great ice tea."

The Best Places to Eat and Drink in Tucson, Arizona
Mexican food is so popular in Tucson (some neighborhoods have populations that are more than 75 percent Mexican) that an unofficial “Best 23 Miles of Mexican Food” adventure has become renowned for its tour of favorite eateries. Spots include Tucson’s Seis Kitchen, whose homemade tortillas and salsa can’t be beat, and 5 Points Market & Restaurant in South Tucson, which partners with local farms (many of them organic) and artisans for its brunch, lunch, coffee, and dessert. Pro tip: 12th Avenue is an excellent starting point.
Tucson's Best Restaurants : Food Network
The rolled chicken tacos (aka taquitos) at Seis Kitchen are made by slow-stewing all-natural boneless, skinless chicken thighs in a mirepoix-chile stock. The shredded meat is then rolled in fresh corn tortillas, flash-fried and topped with a chipotle aioli, guacamole, queso fresco and chopped cilantro. Plus, one of the restaurant’s co-owners is a nutritionist, so it’s easier to pretend they’re good for you.

For some authentic, regional Mexican grub, head to Seis Kitchen. Here you'll find dishes like cochinita pibil (slow-roasted pork from Yucatan), birria (beef stew from Jalisco), and tinga de pollo (smoky chipotle chicken from Puebla). Grab their fresh juice of the day, which ranges from tamarind and pineapple to homemade horchata.
Local Flavor: Best places to eat and drink in Tucson, Arizona
If you wake up famished, make a beeline for Seis Kitchen (I love the atmospheric location at Mercado San Augustín) and dive headlong into an enormous plate of their utterly magnificent chilaquiles. The thick, house-made tortilla chips bring it all together. And no matter the hour, don’t skip the guac – ‘tis legendary.
Is Tucson the best city for Mexican food in the US?
Seis Kitchen, where the queue is often as impressive as the beverage. The horchata, blended after the rice has been bathed in cinnamon for 24 hours, is well worth the wait.
The Mexican Food Capital of the World and Elsewhere
Seis Kitchen’s menu includes tacos from six different regions of Mexico — for example, achiote roasted pork from Yucatán and birria-style beef from Jalisco. The excellent tacos al pastor are an example of Indigenous Mexican cuisine historically intermarrying an immigrant culture — in this case, the Lebanese who streamed into Mexico in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their spit-roasted lamb morphed into Mexican pork for the sake of these shepherd-style tacos, and the red chile and pineapple bathing it yields a stunningly sophisticated triad of flavor — smoky, spicy and citrusy.
Family-Friendly Restaurants in Tucson | Breakfast to Dinner
This one-time food truck is now one of Tucson’s most recognized casual Mexican restaurants, dishing up mouth-watering burritos, salads, tacos, and quesadillas at three locations throughout Tucson. Pro Tip: While all three locales feature extensive patios that will allow your family to stretch out for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, we’d recommend you stop by the Mercado San Agustin location and sit in the fully enclosed courtyard that’s shared by the likes of La Estrella Bakery and Presta Coffee Roasters, among others. Because what’s better than noshing at one restaurant?
'America's Best Mexican Food' Is Officially In Tucson
While old-timers started from pushcarts, this more recent staple's story began on a food truck. Since its establishment in 2012, this concept honoring the six major culinary regions of Mexico has become an outstanding example of what a Tucson City of Gastronomy Artisan can and should be, with three locations to show for it. I went to the one in Mercado San Agustin and, after ordering at the counter, inhaled a belly-filler of an upscale breakfast served in a gorgeous courtyard with Spanish villa vibes.

Seis Kitchen’s first location is also in Mercado San Agustín. The restaurant is named after the six culinary regions of Mexico (Baja, Northern, Central, Pacific, Gulf Coast and Yucatan) and owner and chef Erika Muñoz philosophy of using real food with whole, fresh ingredients is reflected in all its dishes. The restaurant sources all of its beef, chicken, olive oil and coffee from Arizona farms, and partners with Seafood Watch to only use sustainably sourced seafood.
