What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Cafe Beaujolais is a highly-regarded establishment in Mendocino, celebrated for its exceptional French-inspired cuisine and charming Victorian farmhouse setting. Diners frequently praise dishes like the A5 wagyu steak, duck confit, and black cod, alongside the attentive service and extensive wine list. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, some reviews mention occasional issues with food being too salty or bread being stale, and seating arrangements can sometimes be a point of discussion.
"Definitely dine here! The chef was amazing, the staff and service were excellent. The food was incredible. We came on NYE so we had the tasting menu which was incredible and the perfect amount of food, but I was super tempted by the a la carte menu as well. The A5 wagyu was maybe the best steak I have ever had, I could practically cut it with my fork it was so tender."

"A great cafe to hang out with friends. Beautiful ambience and amicable service. I lived their setup and they have access to restroom as well. We got croissants, matcha latte, coffee latte, cappuccino. Everything was good and I loved their coffee blend as well. The matcha was good and not too bitter. One of the few places to try matcha and it’s highly rated at this spot and it didn’t disappoint. The croissant was fresh, buttery and crunchy on the outside. Overall we had a great time at this place."

"We were driving by and unfortunately had no chance to make the reservation, but the option to grab takeout and dine on the magical backyard patio was even more desirable. Thank you for such a welcoming service and for that incredibly delicious food! Honestly, it was my first time eating foie gras out of a plastic container, but sucraface paid off anyway and I got no less joy for sure!"

Cafe Beaujolais has been a destination for decades, once known for its beloved breakfasts whipped up by the original chef and owner Margaret Fox. Current owners Peter and Melissa Lopez, along with their chef/son Julian, are intent on preserving the classic fine dining menu and building on it with bold new flavors, demonstrated in dishes such as the pork tenderloin marsala, served with a soubise risotto, maitake mushrooms, onion brulee, and asparagus. In the morning or evening, grab coffee and baked goods or a cocktail, respectively, in the fire-warmed Waiting Room.
