Current owners Peter and Melissa Lopez, along with their chef/son Julian, are intent on preserving the classic fine dining menu and building on it with bold new flavors, demonstrated in dishes such as the pork tenderloin marsala, served with a soubise risotto, maitake mushrooms, onion brulee, and asparagus. In the morning or evening, grab coffee and baked goods or a cocktail, respectively, in the fire-warmed Waiting Room.

On the street is Café Beaujolais, a fine dining option open for dinner and in front of the Brickery is The Waiting Room which is a coffee and pastry shop till dinner time when it becomes a lounge. It is a bit confusing at first but we followed the path between the buildings and found ourselves in a lovely garden area furnished with an assortment of tables and a window to place your order.

There’s something so enticing about it to me, inside and out; I think it provides the perfect ambience for a fine dining Mendocino experience. But it wasn’t always a fine-dining establishment.

Cafe Beaujolais will blow you away with their classic yet innovative French cuisine. Their kitchen, lead by seasoned executive chef Julian, seeks out the finest, freshest ingredients by sourcing from local farmers and producers. They also have an amazing wine list that will pair well with any dish.

Specialties: duck, lamb ragu, lavender ice cream, osso bucco with root veggies and mashed potatoes, scallops with cauliflower purée, togarashi seared ahi tuna. Located within a Victorian-style house, Café Beaujolais uses local organic produce and bakes their own breads in a brick oven.

Café Beaujolais – This gem of a restaurant has been a Mendocino staple for years. It’s darling and quaint, with a quintessential Victorian vibe. We absolutely loved every dish we tried, from the fresh Salmon to the Liberty Duck Breast.

For our first night, we drove north to Mendocino village for dinner at Café Beaujolais. This stop was the only repeat element on this trip. We ate breakfast at Café Beaujolais during the 1990s when Margaret Fox was the chef-owner.

A hallmark of Café Beaujolais' cooking is the use of organically grown produce, locally line-caught seafood, most of the meat, poultry and eggs are raised in a free-range environment without chemical-supplemented feed.

She moved on and eventually added experience to her resume at the Little River Inn, Albion River Inn, and Café Beaujolais. For his part, Saul had a history at former local restaurant 955 before they opened Trillium.

Amazing food, excellent wine list, and one of the best negronis I've ever tasted. I ordered the beef tartar appetizer, but chef made it with polenta for a gluten allergy.
