What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Perry's Restaurant is celebrated for its innovative Japanese cuisine, particularly standout dishes like the Udon Carbonara. Diners frequently praise the vibrant atmosphere, especially the rooftop bar, and attentive service. While many rave about the food quality and unique flavor combinations, a few reviewers have noted occasional issues with food preparation or service speed during busy periods.
"Yes, I would absolutely go back. It's not your traditional sushi joint - the vibe is more chill and social.
The sushi - wow, I wasn't expecting it to be so good. There's a wonderful selection of fabulous fish cut just right. And their Sake menu is something to explore.
The service is good and attentive. And for three people ordering 4x apps, 20x pieces of sushi, and 2x rolls with fresh Wasabi- it was about $360 in total. (20% service charge is included)"

"Went here for restaurant week and the entire experience was amazing. The staff were phenomenal, very kind and professional, the food was amazing, and the atmosphere is great. Perfect for a date or to treat yourself. The happy hour is also a great deal for the quality of food and drinks. Their rooftop is also amazing. Zero complaints. Absolutely will be back."
Sara Ulanoski
"We came here for happy hour and sat at the bar inside - very popular so we had to wait around 10 minutes for a seat but could still order drinks whilst we were waiting. The bar service was really friendly and quick. Tried both Japanese beer and sake at happy hour prices and they were great. The sushi was tasty and fresh but the karaage was a bit too greasy for our taste."

Dining Guide to Award-Winning Restaurants in Washington, DC
Thanks to its community-minded drag brunches, its idyllic yet low-key rooftop and its killer Japanese menu, Perry's is always a fan favorite. In 2022, Chef Masako Morishita became the first Japanese woman to helm the kitchen and refreshed the menu to reflect her adventurous brand of “modern comfort food," including parmesan-topped edamame dumplings, shrimp katsu burgers on potato buns (held together by pink flamingo cocktail picks), udon carbonara and a special Japanese breakfast service. Morishita's vision was recognized on a new level when she was awarded two of the most prestigious endorsements a culinary up-and-comer can receive – first, the honor of Emerging Chef at the James Beard Awards, and second, Rising Culinary Star of the Year at the RAMMYs, the prestigious culinary awards granted annually by the DC region's restaurant association.
Rick Eats DC Dining Guide — July 2024 Update
Before chef Masako Morishita showed up, Perry’s was the place with the nice roof deck that’d pop into my head the three days a year Sonia declared the weather too nice to sit inside. Now I don’t wait for the weather report and count myself lucky when I can snag a table anywhere on the premises. Sushi and other raw fish preparations are lovely but it’s chef Morishita’s cooked dishes, like the grilled avocado, udon carbonara, and shrimp katsu burger, that keep me coming back and answering “first available” when the host asks if I prefer outside or inside.
