What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Fish Trap Restaurant & Seafood Market is celebrated for its exceptionally fresh seafood and warm, family-friendly atmosphere, making diners feel right at home. While many praise dishes like Shrimp Scampi, Mussels, Salmon, and blackened Wahoo, some reviews mention issues with noise levels, potentially small appetizer portions, and a dismissive management response to seating concerns. Despite these occasional drawbacks, the fresh taste and local vibe remain strong draws for visitors and locals alike.
"The Fish Trap us awesome. Having tried multiple places downtown, it was refreshing to find a place that was family friendly, able to accommodate my pregnant wife's dinner requests, and also made is feel at home and a part of the family. We ended up coming twice and both times were outstanding. I definitely recommend the Shrimp Scampi or the Mussels."

"Great food. Today is their last day for the season, we went last night. Fish was fresh, atmosphere was great. We had a great time with a couple friends we met on an excursion earlier in the week. Def have a late dinner and head over to the beach bar after a block over. Had an awesome time"
Nick Rossi
"By far, the BEST dinner we had in St. John/ Cruz Bay... Salmon was melt in your mouth delicious!!! Swordfish & shrimp was seasoned so well! Fresh fresh fresh! Amazing! Servers were also so kind and welcoming!"

We also enjoy the Banana Deck and think it is very reasonable. You can go very expensive (Zozo's, Asolare) or you can eat bar food at the Beach Bar. Many people love the foods at the stands too.
St John and Vieques US Virgin Islands
We ended most beach days sipping Presidente beers and Margaritas as we watched the ferry from St. Thomas come and go from the porch at Spyglass restaurant; dinners – local mahi at Fish Trap, Asian-inflected dishes with a postcard-worthy at Asolare and Thai at Rhumb Lines – were fresh, delicious and casual. We weren’t sure about getting carry out ribs from Candi’s BBQ and Grill – the not-mobile food truck is located next to a gas station near the car ferry – until we spotted Candi in the back chopping cabbage for cole slaw. “I make everything here, including the come-back sauce for the ribs,” she said.
St John Resturant Recommendations – Travel Message Board – U.S
The Lime Inn, Morgan's Mango, The Fish Trap, Roma Cafe for pizza and pasta (lots of people ordering for pick up to take back to their hotels) Woody's for good bar food and people watching and Chilly Billy's for breakfast. For our next trip, we'll probably try the BBQ place, Miss Lucy's and Las Tapas. My husband isn't much of a foodie so a good restaurant is pretty much lost on him 🙂
