Reviews Summary

Luk Lak Vietnamese Restaurant is highly praised for its refined take on traditional Vietnamese cuisine and stylish ambiance, earning it a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Diners rave about dishes like bun cha and soft shell crab spring rolls, and appreciate the elegant setting. However, some visitors have noted inconsistencies in service, with occasional attentiveness issues, and a few have found certain dishes to be bland or not to their taste, with one review mentioning a negative food poisoning experience.

"The food is really good. The dishes were interesting, clearly thought out and hitting a lot of buttons when it comes to refined Vietnamese food. The quality of the ingredients comes through, the cuts of pork and prawns were great. I’d give the fried spring rolls a miss next time, nothing special there. The black rice was the most disappointing, I had high expectations seeing it was served in a claypot but the flavour was just too coarse. Stick to a nice flavourful, aromatic plain rice next time. Plenty of good things on the menu to satisfy everyone. Service was friendly and really quick."

"Tried our luck at this resto and it was one of the best decisions made in VN trip. The food was nothing but spectacular. Bun cha was really yummy, every element was just perfection. Soft shell crab popia was kinda pricey but yummy. The egg vegetables dish was great too. Only the grilled chicken that was kinda too bland. Egg coffee was also exceeding expectations. Ambience was perfect. Totally recommend."

"Luk Lak Vietnamese Restaurant in Hanoi truly delivers on quality—every dish we tried was stunning and beautifully presented. It’s easy to see why it earned a Michelin BIB Gourmand in 2024. The restaurant was quite busy when we visited, so service was a little slow, but still friendly and attentive.

The atmosphere is stylish yet relaxed, making it great for a nice evening out. I’d definitely return to try more from the diverse and tempting menu.

Restaurants in Hanoi

Serving countryside dishes with a refreshing modern twist, Luk Lak is a welcome addition to Hanoi's dining scene. Many of the dishes are head chef Madame Binh's take on recipes from a particular part of the country, such as the ga nuong Tu Le (grilled chicken with sticky rice from Yen Bai Province) and tom xoc toi Quang Tri (prawn with lemongrass and chili from Quang Tri Province). The minimalist design with flashes of Hanoi's colonial heritage serves to enhance an already exceptional dining experience.

With crunchy vegetables, flavours of fresh herbs and just a few morsels of meat, Vietnamese salads are all about texture. A sprinkle of red chilli slices and a sweet and sour dressing give it a kick.

The menu at Luk Lak is inspired by Vietnam’s highland cuisine, which means generously seasoned grilled meats, crisp subtropical vegetables and creative fried rice dishes with ingredients like lotus seed and lemongrass. Head chef Madame Binh worked at various high-tier restaurants in Hanoi before opening Luk Lak in 2018, which now also has locations in Danang and Ho Chi Minh City. The original outlet overlooks the French-built Neoclassical Hanoi Opera House, but the interiors are far from classical, with a tasteful Indochine-inspired dining room and verdant tropical plants.

Poor service” is a common thread in all the reviews you read online. However, the fresh vegan spring rolls with mint dipping sauce are to die for and them, combined with the pretty interior setting, made up for the terribly inattentive staff. Prices are a bit inflated for Vietnamese food since the same food at a street stall can be found equally delicious and wonderfully inexpensive, but Luk Lak is worth the slight increase in cost for the pretty environment.
