What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Tam Vi is widely praised for its authentic Northern Vietnamese home-style cooking, served in a beautifully traditional and atmospheric setting. Diners frequently highlight the excellent value, especially considering its Michelin star recognition, and the friendly, attentive service. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, a few mention minor inconsistencies in dish flavor, such as a bland crab soup.
"We loved everything about our lunch here. We didn't have a reservation but they catered for my family of 4 quite quickly. All the staff were just so friendly and helpful. They even asked if we wanted to move to a better table when it became available... Something away from the busy entrance.
Food came out quick and tasted fresh and really good. Caramelized pork belly and grapefruit prawn salad were my favourites.
Given they were awarded a Michelin star, I can see how some people may have expected a lot more and then rated them lower."

"It was the most value for money Michelin star restaurant in Vietnam! It had excellent variety of food veg, seafood, chicken, pork, beef and super tropical. The taste was fresh and crunchy! It can please any palette! My favourite was green mango salad with perfect mix of betel leaves, peanuts and baby shrimp fried. The betel leaf wrapped pork was simple and interesting! Highly recommended. One must have reservation and be there on time to enjoy! Food arrived fast so it takes about 45 mins for a table turnaround"

"The meal we had here was the one I was most looking forward to. We had a few hiccups with our reservation because of several days of road closures for Vietnam’s Independence Day celebrations, and heavy traffic (of course), but the staff was very responsive and accommodating. They really made sure to meet us halfway.
The effort was worth it! We were warmly welcomed by their team and even escorted to our reserved table in their other building (they actually have two, separated by Fuku Cafe). The ambiance was sooo inviting; the wooden interiors gave off both a homely feel and a true Vietnamese vibe.
And the food? Surprisingly affordable for how delicious and generous the servings were! We honestly thought we wouldn’t be able to finish everything, but we did. I especially loved the mango salad, the tofu in green onion sauce, and the thinly sliced pork. They even treated us to longan for dessert. Such a nice touch!
I’ll definitely come back to dine here again and bring family and friends the next time I visit Hanoi."

A temple of Northern Vietnamese home cooking, served in the most cerebral surroundings; a vintage wooden house that creaks and groans underfoot (or were those the groans of satisfied diners?). Why we love it: There are no efforts to 'elevate' an already sophisticated cuisine at Tầm Vị, a restaurant that has earned its reputation by delivering on the implicit elegance of Northern Vietnamese food. The origin story only adds to the charm: a mother-daughter duo with no restaurant training decided to share their family recipes in 2019, never chasing recognition.
