Reviews Summary

The National Library of Algeria El Hamma is a place of stark contrasts, boasting impressive architecture but suffering from significant neglect. Visitors often praise its grand design and potential as a quiet study space, yet are consistently disappointed by decaying facilities, poor maintenance, and unprofessional staff. While it serves its basic function for some students, the overall experience is marred by a lack of essential amenities and a general sense of disrepair.

"This place has so much potential, yet it’s heartbreaking to see how neglected it has become. The architecture is stunning, and the space itself is large enough to serve many purposes. But the reality is disappointing: the furniture is decaying, the walls and ceilings are deteriorating, and the restrooms are always in a dreadful state. Outside, there’s little to no security, which only adds to the sense of abandonment.

The responsibility doesn’t fall only on the government or the administration—many students themselves treat the place with no respect. A library is meant for studying and working, not for hanging out or making a mess. If people want a social space, there are cafés and parks for that.

It’s truly sad to see such a beautiful place ruined by both neglect and lack of care.

In fact on 27/09/2025 we witnessed a girl who claimed thst she was chased by a knife from an unknown male while she was losing her mind the portal guards were literally standing uselessly"

"This is supposed to be the national library of Algeria ,but it isn't a good representation at all . The people who work there ( not all) are unprofessional and rude especially at the reception and registration office , they مشنفين as if we came to study in their house uninvited . The first time I went there it wasn't a good experience , if I had another space to study I wouldn't go again for this library but this is the only left choice. The library is big and pretty and clean but for vain ,space could have been used better. The desk and chair aren't that comfortable and there is no internet connexion . Albeit its all negative aspects but we are there to study and this library as any other library enables you to study so it works ."
