What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking glacial landscape and panoramic mountain views, especially during sunrise. The trek is challenging but rewarding, with the Refugio Hielo Azul serving as a crucial base. However, some note the trail's difficulty and potential for snow obscuring the path, advising caution and preparation.
"For now (start of December 2024) there is still a lot of snow and you won't be able to see the ice or the lake. The hiking trail is not visible after about 3/4 of it, but there are step marks in the snow to follow which will get you to the top - a lot of snow, bring good shoes. The view is still amazing. Inform yourself in the Refugio."

"I went there for the sunrise in February, had the most amazing view of the mountains and got to see the glacier up close. Would strongly recommend!!"

"We went up from the refuge, it took us approximately 2 hours. (those who are more experienced, trained and with adequate equipment do it less safely) The Climb is demanding due to the unevenness and the rocks, you have to be careful, for those who do not have experience it is likely that it will take longer and they should be cautious in the ascent.
Then the glacier is a dream, a beauty, the last stretch to the glacier is dangerous, the loose rocks crumble. Always go with care, responsibility and having notified the shelter prior to the ascent and return. I visited it before the Bolson fires that started on 01/30/25"
