Timing is Everything for the Blowholes

The Torndirrup Blowholes are a natural wonder, but their 'performance' depends heavily on ocean swell. Check local surf reports or ask at the visitor center for the best chance to witness the dramatic spray and sound. Visiting during high tide and with a strong swell is key for the most impressive show. InstagramReddit

Safety First at the Blowholes

While the viewing platforms are secure, the natural rock formations around the blowholes can be slippery and dangerous. Always stay on marked paths and keep a close eye on children. The power of the ocean here is immense, and unexpected waves can occur. TikTokReddit

Life on the edge 🌊 Feeling the power of the ocean 40m above is pretty surreal. The gap and blowholes are within the Torndirrup National Park, Western Australia. A must visit when in the Albany area! Fun fact: the gap platform can hold up to 4 elephants 🐘, so no need to stress over the structural strength. Just stress over the death grip on the cameras and phones 😂 #shareamazingalbany #albanyWa ...

The Blowholes are crevasses in the granite stretching down to sea level far below. With each wave the 'holes' blow air and water up the channel and out the top creating a burst of spray and a loud droning whoosh! The rocks of this coastline were once connected to Antarctica when Australia was part of the supercontinent Gondwana. The rocks around the blowholes were created some 1800 million years a...

Reviews Summary

Visitors are consistently awed by the raw power of the ocean at the Torndirrup Blowholes, describing the sound and spray as impressive and unique. The surrounding coastal scenery and geological formations like The Gap and Natural Bridge are also highly praised. However, some visitors note that the blowholes' activity is highly dependent on swell conditions, and caution is advised due to slippery rocks and potential car break-ins.

"Another stunning feature of the this part of the WA coast. It is quite a walk down to get to the spot where the blowholes are and a workout getting back but it is worth it. There is no guarantee they will be blowing as it depends on the swell and the tide. They were blowing air when we were there and it it very impressive. The rocks are quite dangerous as you can tumble into the sea so children should be carefully held. Beautiful views of the ocean and coat."

"I think I chose the wrong day to see action at the blowholes. I could hear the rushing water, but that's it. I guess I also needed more guidance on where I should go once I got to the small sign indicating the blowholes were another 33 meters. All the warning signs to stay on the path I've previously seen have me well trained and especially when a path disappears like this one. It can be a steep climb, including steps, for some on the return trip. Watch out for your valuables. Warning sign in carpark. I also broken car glass on the carpark."

"Blowholes is a very unique and must watch attraction. It is so exciting and amazing to see the sound from the hole in the rocks resulting from the waves crashing so hard underneath. The walk is long but simple, except the 50+ stairs and some hilly areas. Fascinating to know how nature can make us wonder in different ways. Be careful and follow all the guidelines while on the rocks."
