The salt mine tour alone can take 1.5-4 hours. Plan accordingly. ⏳
Visitors rave about the absolutely stunning panoramic views from the Skywalk, calling it a highlight of their trip. The historic salt mine tour is also a unique and engaging experience. However, some find the logistics challenging, with long queues, significant walking required from the funicular, and occasional disorganization at ticket counters.
"We took the funicular railway in Hallstatt to reach the Skywalk viewing platform. The ride itself was smooth and offered great views on the way up. However, due to ongoing construction, it was quite a walk from the top station to the actual viewing platform — with lots of steps and detours, which might be a bit challenging for families with small children or anyone with mobility issues.
The view from the top was absolutely stunning and totally worth the effort. You get an incredible panoramic view over Hallstatt, the lake, and surrounding mountains.
One thing to note: children under 4 years old are not allowed to enter the salt mine, so keep that in mind if you’re traveling with little ones.
Overall, it’s a beautiful experience, but be prepared for some extra walking!"

"For one of the most beautiful views of Lake Hallstatt, I recommend purchasing a return ticket (€45 for two people) and visiting the salt mine. If you have time and are physically fit, you'll take amazing photos from the top.
You still have to walk 650 meters to the mine and a few hundred meters during the tour, so don't want high heels or uncomfortable shoes.
The atmosphere inside the mine is cold (8°C). You will be given extra clothes, but be prepared for an hour and a half. Be ready to take photos and videos of this amazing experience. Be sure to check the showtimes, as a limited number of people are allowed at a time. Free, strong Wi-Fi is available in the area (shop, ticket office) (except in the mine). There's a restaurant at the end of the tour where you can relax and have a cup of coffee."

"There are a lot of salt mine tours in this part of the world that all offer similar products of dressing in jumpsuits to walk round caves, have a slide, and a train ride out.
Hallstatt does this as well as anyone, though be warned, this tour will take you well around 4 hours from start to finish, so if time is tight, you’re better off skipping this and just enjoying the amazing sights.
But Hallstatt salt mine has one thing none of the others can match - its amazing skywalk platform with the stunning views of the lake, mountains and town.
The skywalk comes as part of a package with the mine and is easily the highlight of the tour."
